Got to do what makes you warm and fuzzy.  My intention was to point out the resolution of the problem for those who can't live with the sleepy non-performance of the 110's for 2 years or more.

I fully understand BLM. Doesn't necessarily thrill me that I need to be concerned about this. But a little proper planning can't hurt. You know what they say. "Proper prior planning prevents piss poor performance!" I can live with 90-100 HP and 100-110 TQ for 2 years. Some can and some can't. I'm trying to at least make sure we have the choice. ;) Hoist!  8-)

Seems to me there have been more failures of motors from the way the MoCo produced/shipped them then there has been from people doing proven mods (Parts/Packages coming from reputable company's that have done the R&D for those packages). It would be interesting to see a comparison between those failures/breakdowns. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Howie you state if it breaks down on the highway you are going to rent a van and bring it back home, then why not build a relationship w/that dealer that is going to be doing the work and if he's going to back mods you have done, do what you want to it. [smiley=confused5.gif] I do understand how you feel about not letting anybody/shop work on your bike I feel the same way.

Think I may just put the K&N oem style air filter in the stock air box (have this off my '06 melon), install a PCIII and have it dynoed and do nothing else.  Bike runs good and has enough power for me as is.

That's pretty much the reason d00d. They normally wouldn't be working on my bike. And I do have a good relationship with the dealer. But I've never been a fan of factory service departments. You don't get the same personal attention or expertise you'd get with a good private guy, that you can deal with directly. And they're a lot more expensive. That being said, warranty must be handled by a dealer. That should be with someone you can work with as well. Minor failures on the road would be handled locally. But I won't leave any of my bikes anywhere out of town. If it can't be fixed, timely, on the road, I'll take it home. hopefully the dealer will fix it right. But if you get a major failure, you got the factory involved now. I don't want there to be a reason to fight with the factory about warranty, when I haven't caused the problem. Look what Mike's going through. I guess it's not fail-safe, but I feel pretty good about it. ;) Hoist!  8-)

Any time the stock 103 or 110 seems too tame for anyone, they need to throw a leg over a stock TC88 for a day.  That will put things in perspective real quick.

There you go Jerry. Thanks. I needed that. All my Dressers have been left basically stock for touring. Just like my '03 88" RK. Still stock. I have a stroker and know what good performance is. But believe it or not, I'm able to live with a stock (basically) touring bike. Like I said, it's not for everyone, but some people can live with this. If you can't, ignore everything I've said. If you can, some of these ideas might be helpful. ;) Hoist!  8-)

Maybe that's where we differ I do get the same guy to work on my bike when it goes to the shop (by my request). I go back to his workstation while he's working on my bike, talk to him, ask him questions, and watch him work on my bike. He knows how much I care about and take care of my bike. Yes it may be a little more expensive, but until I find an "indy" that I trust w/my bike, I’m stuck with taking it to the dealer.

In regards to the warranty claim unless it's something like what the MoCo is experiencing now w/the motors in the 110's (think they are wanting to motors back to do some more R&D) usually the factory doesn't get involved w/warranty. The dealer calls for authorization, it's granted, dealer is given an authorization number and work is done. Depending on dealer a lot of times things that may not have been covered can get covered depending on how dealer writes it up.

The mods I did to my bike (cam, oil pump, etc) were done only to get rid of a potential problem that existed in the motor. Granted when I did them I got better performance, but initial reason was for protection/reliability of the motor. I would much rather fix a known potential problem then waiting on problem to happen just to say the MoCo is going to pay for it.

Ditto. I'm haveing problems justifying any upgrades till some of these problems get addressed by MoCo. Still a bit afraid of warranty issues. I agree with Hoist in Stage 1 upgrade without warranty problems.

Like stated elswhere, you gotta have a tech that you can count on and knows his stuff. Tuning, Dyno's, mods, etc. Not just MMI stuff. And a relationship with the shop as well. But here, you're not going back there to watch. I don't know one dealer here letting you be part of your own service process. You know me man, I want to be involved and know things are getting done right. I learn things in the process too! I can only do that here with an independent. Maybe that helps explain the different philosophies on where people bring their bikes and whether or not they need their warranty. ;) Hoist!  8-)

Just talked with Sandman he said the oil pump just came apart.

Did he explain what caused the oil pump to come apart?

The same thing happened to me twice with my 103 a few years ago. It all stemmed from too much runout in the flywheels...and eventually cracked the oil pump.

Just talked with Sandman he said the oil pump just came apart. He gave me a BIG DISCOUNT on sert, seac also doing custom map and full day on dyno $100.00.  I have to put 800 miles on new motor first. GREAT GUY!!!!!!

Just returned from the HD shop to get Hoist's new bling (100th Anniv. Pewter bike display) and to look at my new tins on the Blk/Crimson 06 SEUC.

The tins look fantastic.  Wow, they are actually black looking.

Anyway, I mentioned the oil pump you had go and got an earful.  They had a 07 SEUC that did the same/similar thing and when they got it in they called the MoCo.

Hears what else is going on, the fly wheels are slipping the mount and hammering the inards.  Oil pump, lifters cams..........The MoCo says they have the issue corrected.  I imagine this is what is happening to some of these failures mentioned here.

Just another part of new technology and changes in design.

Gotta love their R&D department or lack there of >:(

Why don't they have ''their issues'' corrected before they become our issues! Damn MoFoCo's!!!

I'd say "economics" but the economics of replacing and repairing all of these motors, let alone the debacle of replacing all the painted parts on the 06 SEUC's, has to be costly.  But when you charge what they do, I hate to even think what the margin to the factory is in one of our machines.
