You should ask them to put the SERT and SE A/C in now with the base map 84. After the miles go on, then have them Dyno-tune it. Don't take any more chances with the lean engine conditions. I know you had oil pump problems, but you got a second chance to get the engine right from day one now. Good luck with it and I'm glad you're in the wind again. Hoist! 8)

Blown 110" - HELP - What should I do before I pick up mine?????
« Reply #78 on: February 28, 2007, 01:46:09 PM »

My 2007 CVO Road King is here - probably won't be picking it up until April (due to weather in the great upper midwest). I really wanted the 110" but I'm getting a tish concerned because of what's being said here - some say that I should swap out the exhaust and install either a Power Commander or a SERT before I even take delivery and bring it back after the break-in period to have it dyno'd. Others say wait until the break-in period is over and then do the swaps and have it dyno'd at the same time.
Some say it will VOID my warranty others say it won't - anyone know for sure what I should do???? Sure would like to figure this out before I pick it up.
Thanks much!!

I've 980 miles and get the oil changeded Saturday. Wow, I'll certainly keep an eye on this and I think I'll even ping the dealership about this issue. Good heads-up! Bummer for those who have had to deal with this.

Stokhr,
First off welcome to the site, we are glad to have you join us. :2vrolijk_21: When you get a chance you should go to this board - New Member Introduction and start a thread to introduce yourself.

In regards to your questions talk to the dealer that is going to be servicing your bike. Dealers are different in what they tell you will void the warranty so you will need to see how they feel about the mods you are doing. I would also talk to the people in the service department (technicians). See what they recommend (are most comfortable/proficient with) when it comes to what product to use to tune/adjust your AFR (SERT/PCIII/Others). You don't want to decide on a product that they are unfamiliar w/and your bike is the guinea pig for them to learn on.

From hearing/reading all the information concerning the 110ci motor, and considering the time you have before you pick up your bike I would probably opt for having the mods installed by the time I pick it up, have some baseline map close to the pipes/breather I installed, then when you go back for the 1k service have it dyno'd.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

Welcome strohkr,

I know you will enjoy riding your bike once the weather clears.
You will have many opinions and ideas expressed her on this site, many you have already read. I will try to keep my opinions brief.
I would say you need to check out your dealer's stance on backing his work and installation of mods or accessories. One advantage it that usually anything installed before delivery it covered under the factory two year warranty. If you buy it later it may only have a short warranty covering it. We do know that every new Harley comes lean running from the factory to comply with EPA regulations. What you have your dealer install to make the air/fuel ratio better and the engine run at safer operating temps can only be a good thing for the engine's longevity. Most dealers will back anything they install but that doesn't mean if you have a problem on the road that some other dealer may not honnor that warranty, it is a dealer by dealer thing. In the event of a major failure on the road you can always have the bike towed to the selling/installing dealer for work but the idea is if you get it to run right it has a smaller chance of breaking down. Also to deny a claim the MOCO has to prove that your mod had a direct cause and effect on the problem.

Welcome to the site, congrats on the new ride.  d00d covered it well, it's all about your dealer adn if they will cover warranty.  They are your source for that answer.  I would agree, get the stuff on it and dyno it at the 1k service.  I know you'll appreciate the PCC/SERT mod along with exhaust.

If your dealer will stand behind his work/warranty, and is comfortable with the SERT, one good solution is to have them go ahead and put the exhaust systerm of your choice...true duals allow individual tuning of each cylinder...and load MAP #84 from the SERT into the ECM.  This will be a close to right map for that setup and will allow a good break-in.  Then at 1K have the bike tuned on the dyno.  If your dealer is not comfortable with the SERT, and prefers the PCIII from Dynojet, there are many maps available which would get you very close and allow a good break in period.  The 07 110's are very lean, and if it were mine, I would not be comfortable riding it stock, paticularly if the weather is hot where you live.

The main thing is what others have already mentioned...talk to your dealer and find out what they are comfortable with, and make your choices from there.

Thanks everyone for the advice - I also made a post to the "Upgrade" topic about what exhaust system to use. Briefly, I have experience with Khrome Werks HP-Plus 100 slip ons (had them on my '99 Dyna and my '03 Ultra) and V&H Powershots (had them on my '05 V-Rod). I have no experience with Rineharts or a 2 into 1 system although I have an email into V&H asking about their Pro Pipe. After I decide what route I'd like to do exhaust wise - I'm going to contact my dealer (Fargo, ND HD) and see what they say about the warranty issues (new exhaust, SERT or PC III). If anyone has any thoughts about what to do exhaust wise - I'd love to hear 'em. I really want to do the upgrades to my SERK right the first time.
Thanks again!

Hi Strohkr, we'll be thru your fair city in July on the HOG Posse ride.  Never been to Fargo but looking forward to it.  Your dealer, Del Hofer, is a legend and a great human being.  I'm sure he, his son and staff will steer you right.  They are good folks.

I had the SERT loaded with MAP #84 and  V&H Big Radius exhaust fromt the start. After about 300 miles I noticed it was running a little lean. Pipes were bluing and there was a popping between shifts and on decel. I changed all the sections that were set at 14.6 to 13.6. Seems to be running a lot better not. I hope I didn't do any real damage in the first 300 miles. Point is depending on the exhaust MAP #84 may still be too lean.  I'll be putting it on the dyno this Saturday to fine tune it.

2Lane,

Mine is the SEUC in Hawaii, and after the engine replacement and the SE A/C, SERT map #84, and True Duels mine is running a lot cooler. I think it is all because of that LCD oil temp dipstick that is scarring the engine to stay cool...lol

Mark
Hi, What is your oil temp? Please give me the temp outside when the oil temp was read. Also conditions,,, just spent 10 min in traffic or just got off the highway or just left the dragstrip and ran in the 9s  :bananarock:

Thank you,
Steven
