Stock Pushrods & GMR Lifters
« on: April 21, 2015, 08:56:45 AM »

I went ahead and removed the rocker boxes to get a better look inside.  Nothing obvious going on in there of course.  I decided to remove the lifters and inspect them. There is a tiny bit of scoring on the rollers but it is very minimal.  I am going to replace them anyway, since I am already in there.  My question is, since I removed the rocker boxes, can I reuse the stock push rods with replacement GMR lifters or MUST I buy new adjustables?
thank you

Lifters are pretty much universal in basic dimensions, so it shouldn't be a problem to use the stock pushrods (but it still wouldn't hurt to pose your question to GMR).  Where you have to be careful is when changing camshafts, which do not necessarily use the same base circle diameters as stock.

Thats kinda what I figured.  And since the engine hasnt been rotated since I removed everything, I wont have to worry about adjustments, only waiting on all of the lifters to leak down and "equalize before starting the engine (I am guessing).  I would love to order them today, but I have called a couple of times and left a message.  I havent heard back from anyone.  I also sent an email.  I am ready to order now..LOL

UPDATE:  All of the work is done and all seems to be well.  What I have noticed is that the annoying "tick" at idle is nearly completely gone.  Good news right?  Well, yea, BUT now it "ticks" while I am just cruising and/or accelerating!!  Also, that chattering I was getting at 2200RPM, is totally gone...at 2200RPM, now its at 3000RPM..LOL Ideas?   But overall, the bike sounds much better and although that tick is still there, I feel much more confident in the engine than  before.  I wonder if the tick is because I used the stock pushrods and maybe some preload would help....I am open to ideas...
Thanks for all the help ahead of time guys.   Thanks Steve at GMR Performance!!
Ideas?

I've had 3 sets of lifters and 2 different cams in my bike and they have all made top end noise. Nature of the beast.

Yep I think you are hitting the nail on the head.  The sounds that I am getting now so more "normal" than the ones I was getting before.  I made the mistake though of changing back to Syn3.  I wont be doing that again.  The normal sounds got much louder and more pronounced.  Although I know they say it isnt a good idea to swap oil around, I believe I will try something different next time.  $13.00 a quart..Really?  Fool me once..

Glen I'm running liqi-moly 10w-60. Popular over on HTT forum. Got 10 litres off eBay for $80. That's less than $8 a qt.
