Rog,
Thanks for sharing your memories, the pictures are great. I love shots of old bikes, cars, family enjoying life as it was then. It's a perspective on their past, someone snapped a picture and then they went for a ride. How many times to we do the same thing but those photos catch that one moment.

I have a letter from 1946 from my grandfather to his son, my uncle Ed. My uncle was a major, serving overseas in the army at the time. The letter relates a story of my grandfather hunting a deer in the woods near their house. It tells of how he tracked it and finally shot it and had to go back to the house and get my mother, 18 at the time and her sister to help drag it out of the woods. I didn't really know him very well but the letter opens up one regular day in his life, like your pictures. To me it lets you reach back and share that moment with them.

Great shots, Rog. It must have been nice growing up in a motorcycle environment. I had to run away from home at 16 because I wasn't allowed to have a motorcycle. I've been riding and been on my own ever since!!! That was over 35 years ago. Me and my mom laugh about that now! ;) Hoist!  8-)

I didn't get to ride much even though dad was a motor officer for a few years and really liked bikes.  We didn't have them around much as a kid, I think the bike went when my brother was born and then two sisters.

Dad got a bike again after I had a couple and starting selling cars.  We took a Varago and he got it from us.  Then we sold him a Honda 750 Shadow.  He piled on that thing and rode it to California to see relatives and my Mom flew down to meet him in Sacramento.

From there they rode to Reno and spent a couple days and then rode home to Seattle.  My sister had a cow, how could those old people do that, was I nuts for selling him the bike.  I truly get joy from reminding my sister today that she is nearly as old as mom was when they made the trip, 57.  Dad was 62.

My how different those numbers look from here rather than they did in 1983.

It is great to have those memories, you're making your own now Hoist.

You are certainly right Ed.  Those are irreplacable memories.  Your letter is very special.

We're all fortunate to be able to have our memories.  Seems the older we get the more they are cherished too.

Great old pictures.  Thanks for posting.  May Dad never rode but my Grandpa did so I'll have to get my Dad to see if he can find any pictures of him with his bike.  Your Dad was a fine looking fellow.

Only pictures I have right now like this are recent.  Took my Mom for a ride on her 72nd Birthday last March, wasn't the best day for a ride but she wanted to go.  She hadn't been on a bike in over 40yrs.  This was exciting for her, she wants to go on more rides this coming summer, she was at my brothers place last summer and did go for a few rides with him on his Wing, she'll be here more this summer so I'll be able to take her out and I'll be glad to do it, that smile in the last pic says it all.

Asesome pics and story.

This thread and Chief's thread about his father remind me how lucky I am still have my Dad around, and that he still rides (2002 Road King Classic).  We go to Sturgis together almost every year, and although I enjoy Sturgis, its getting to spend a week with my Dad that is really special.

Thanks again guys,

Ghost

Seems they started a lot of memories for many here, lots of other threads similar.  I think its great that we can all share the memories of simpler times.  They are what has brought us to where we are.
