Need some advice on how to value a trailer
« on: May 21, 2015, 06:45:32 PM »

Looking at a H&H 7x14 v-nose tomorrow morning in a local auction. It has hail damage and a good title. It is a 2012. Can someone give me a ballpark on how much money would still be a good deal?

Thank you. I added some photos. You can see the hail damage but TBH that wouldn't bother me too much. The trailer is in good shape. I could squeeze in 2 bikes which is why I would like the 7x14.

May be the angle the picture was taken but that doesn't look like a V-nose to me. :confused5:

Also noticed it was single axle... does it have electric brakes? For a trailer that size IMO would prefer it to be tandem axle w/electric brakes.

Just went through this as my trailer ended up with a bent axle and frame in W.V. on the turnpike coming home from bike week after striking one of their famous craters at 5 am. It took the insurance over a month to settle up as used trailer values are very hard to come by. They finally used like sales online and even Craigslist to try to come to a fair value. I just ordered a new 6x14 v nose with full led lighting and a lot of other upgrades right at $3100.00. I almost ordered a 7x14 as it was only $200.00 more, but with a single axle you will be over gross by a good bit with two bikes and gear as the trailer weighs about 2000 pounds and the axle without brakes is rated at 3000 pounds. As dOOd already pointed out if you plan on two bikes and some gear you are going to be well over 4000 pounds gross and should have tandem axles and brakes. My 6x12 was over 10 years old and still received $2500.00 so I would agree $2000 would be a great price.

Look at the aluminum in the center, its a V nose according to what I see.

I have a 2004,  Hallmark  6x12 low hauler with brand new mag wheels and tires.  Took it in on a trade, never use it other than to keep a couple Bushtec in it.   Probably go in to put it up for sale soon, be lucky to pull $2,500.00 out of it.

Had many enclosed trailers, get tired of seeing them sit and away they go.

Where do you live?

dOOd you have some great points. I was already a bit concerned about the single axle and load rating. Maybe I can pick it up really cheap and just haul 1 bike until I am ready for an upgrade?

Jesse, single axle hail damage limited in GVW. I wouldn't give more than $ 1000.00.

I use a Aluma 14X7 single axle trailer w/o brakes to haul two baggers all the time. Its either being pulled by my truck or motor home or the friends I let borrow it. The thing has been all over the U.S. without issue. Granted it's all aluminum and only weighs 800 lbs empty but I never saw the need for the extra axle.  :nixweiss:

I got my DA 7*12 for 4200 new.  I also recommend a DA.  I cant tell you how many trailers with flat tires I have seen. Every time I see a flat on a SA i envision my CVO and my friends CVO side by side.

BTW braking with a DA with electric brakes is much better than usign the tow vehicles brakes.
