I Have a couple of thoughts..... first and just for general knowledge, my unit has worked 100% correct since new. I considered not doing any updates because it worked correctly and didn't want to screw it up. I ended up doing the updates and thought I had a problem but it turned out to just be settings.
1. If some are working and some not (IF THE UPDATE WAS IN FACT DONE CORRECTLY AND THE DOWNLOAD WAS A NON CORRUPT AND COMPLETE / CORRECT FILE) then it is obvious that it is not the software. I believe these units, are / were, defective from new. If your unit has never worked right, and the updates don't fix, then you should take your bike to the dealer and make them install the updates. If still not fixed 100% then you need to make them warranty a new unit for your bike. PERIOD!
2. How many are downloading the updates via wireless connection? It only takes a nanosecond of lost signal to end up with a downloaded file with an incomplete script or extension etc.. A downloaded file missing any part of it is basically useless and could cause many problems including corrupting your unit to never work correctly again.
3. Incorrect download file
4. Downloads not installed correctly
I believe that #1 is probably the case in most instances and you guys should take your bikes to the dealers and INSIST that you leave with a 100% working infotainment system, whatever it takes on their part.
