HD Premium Ride Hand Adjustable Touring Shocks
« on: July 03, 2015, 01:53:02 PM »

Has anyone installed the Harley Davidson Premium Ride Hand Adjustable Touring Shocks?  I'd like to know what your experience with them has been.

It looks like the left and right shocks are different; it appears they certainly have different springs.  I like the idea of the knob on  the left shock to adjust sag, but since it only adjusts the left shock, just how effective is this?

Thanks for all input.

Regards

The slightly shorter version is standard equipment on the CVO Street Glide and Road Glide Custom since 2010, so those folks might also have some input for you.  I assume you're talking about the full length 13" version and installing them on an Ultra in place of the stock air shocks?

I have the full length version on my 11.5 CUSE. I believe the Left and right are different because compression is on one side and rebound is on the other. I forget exactly which is which but the left shock is the adjustable one that you can set preload on base upon the weight of passengers and cargo. I spend most of the time on the bike 2-up without a lot of cargo and have the  shocks turned up about 15 "clicks" when riding that way. When we take off for a trip I add a few clicks to compensate for the gear we bring, usually up to 18 for the trip an then back down after we arrive at our destination and the extra stuff comes off the bike. If I'm solo I just back the preload down a little depending on whether the tourpak and bags are full or not.
I find the shocks do a much better job than the air shocks that were on the bike. Adjustment is easy - no need to remove the saddle bag to turn the knob, just open the saddle bag lid (as long as your hand fits in the space available). You can definitely feel the difference when you change settings. Overall I like the performance of the shocks especially when you consider the price point.

That being said, once they wear out I'm leaning strongly toward a set of Ohlins with the remote reservoir -- I just keep saving my change because they are $$$$$

The '09SERG has 32k on the shocks, 28k on the HD Premium Forks, still excellent handling / ride quality. We are happy with them especially considering the price point...

I installed these shocks on my 13 FLHTCUSE8 the night before a 3,000 mile trip. I cranked the preload as high as it would go, loaded the bike with all of our stuff and took off.

Within the first 3 miles I knew there was a difference! There is a bump down the road that I always bottomed out on before and these shocks performed great! Even my wife noticed a difference on this trip and commented several times how great these shocks felt.

Now that being said I rode yesterday by myself with no wife and no luggage and no change to the shock settings. WOW very harsh and stiff ride! I stopped and cranked the shocks back and everything was great again!

Just wish I could reach that knob without taking the saddlebag part way off.

I highly recommend these shocks, not that I am an expert by any means
