I just read there will be a recall. I, for one, will be keeping my baggerbolts on my bike. I will take the parts for the recall to pass along when I sell or trade the bike.

Where'd this info come from.  A friend locally has been fuming about the bag hardware on his bike.  If there's a legitimate cite for a pending recall I'll send it his way.

If there is a recall, I'd have to guess it will go back a few years.

What about guys like me that lost a bag and had to get a replacement and paid for it?  Insurance or not, it was paid for outside the HD network.

Checked the VIN on the 2015 and the following  comes up.  Recall issued yesterday.

Open Recalls

NHTSA Recall Campaign Number: 15V-427Recall Date  Jul 13, 2015

Last UpdatedJul 14, 2015

The saddlebag mounting receptacle, p/n 10900009 on some model year 2014 and 2015Touring family vehicles may not adequately secure the saddlebag to the motorcycle during use.

Model

2015 Ultra Limited CVO

Safety Risk

If this condition remains undetected, the saddlebag may become separated from the motorcycle while it is in motion, possibly creating a hazard for other motorists.

REMEDY

Owners of the affected motorcycles will be asked to arrange service with an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer, who will confirm that the motorcycle is covered by this recall. If covered, the dealer will install the updated receptacle from the recall kit provided. This service will be provided at no charge to the customer.

We strongly urge you to take your motorcycle to your dealer to have the appropriate service performed as soon as possible. Should you choose to ride your motorcycle prior to this service, we urge you to be aware of this condition. Some product campaigns may have expired and you may have to pay for the service. Please see your local Harley-Davidson dealer for further details.

Called my local dealer....they no nothing of a recall. Was asked where I heard that.....on the Harley Davidson website I told them. Then was transferred to a service writer that said we just heard about it but don't have the parts to repair them yet. I asked to get on a list so when the parts come in it can be replaced. Service writer told me just look at them real good, the wire should be in the slot. You will be ok. I asked him if its that simple why did they put out a recall. That question stumped him.

This stuff makes me almost say it's time to get a Victory. Then I remember the local Vic dealer is also a Kawasaki dealer who pulled some similar stuff on me years ago when they couldn't fix a simple problem that another guy fixed in 20 minutes. SMDH

I just talked to a friend of mine who works at a local Dealership. I asked him about the saddle bag recall. He laughed. He told me we just found out AFTER a customer called and wanted to schedule the repair. The Motor Company is notifying the customer but not the Dealerships. He told me the repair kit is not even available yet. For those of you that have lost a bag and had to replace it, I would love to know the outcome of your recall and bag replacement by the Motor Company!!!!

It sounds like my '09 will be out of luck.  But it really depends on how far I push it.  If this recall gets the attention high enough, maybe the dealership can pressure HD on older ones that have lost their saddlebags.

Just have to keep the faith...

Actually they really haven't directly notified the customers either.  The only ones who know about it are the people on forums like this one, or the ones who just happened to check their VIN for recalls yesterday or today.  I assume it will be a month or more before people start getting the actual recall notices in the mail.  But maybe they will speed up the process this time, especially for CVO's, since they will have to replace all those overpriced bags that keep falling off until they take care of it.  I wonder how the folks with the Softails that had the detachable bags fall off due to a poorly designed mounting system feel about this.  They didn't get a recall, and many/most had to buy their own replacements and then use zip ties to hold the bags on.

I just received word from my dealer's manager (Dan Carfi FX-HD Adams NY). They have the kit in stock and want me to have it.

As Forum users we are happy to bash the dealers when they "F" up. I wanted to give credit where credit is due.

While we are quick to bash the Motor Company and the Dealerships, I am one of the first to give credit when credit is due. I'm taking mine in this morning to have them look at it and order the parts before I leave for Sturgis!!! And to address the 2nd clutch recall!!!!

Seriously, how do you screw up a saddlebag mount?

When you can convince a man to pay $70 for a black t shirt, the possibilities become endless.
