Those of you who think they are replacing the pins with one that has a deeper notch.. They are NOT replacing the pins, only the spring retainer.

+1

The wire/spring looks a little thicker.

SMHD changed the pins also, Even the washers were replaced.
Going to bolt my bags, believe that's more secure.

Does it,seem like they are harder to turn, and you can hear the pop when they lock and un lock.

Wow, I have never seen this happen in the 15 years  I have been riding Baggers, I have seen the pins wear out and strip out on some of the earlier models.

I tried the recall and the pins are much harder to change and there is a better sound when it clicks in.

I have nothing to compare it to from old to recall design.  K'ville HD performed the recall before I took ownership.  However I did notice the pins felt more "secure" with a distinct click even more so than the ones not on a recall that were on the '12.

My dealer was an easy in and out. About 15 mins. No appointment necessary

Called my dealer and ultimately was informed that the parts to do this recall are on backorder until August 17, 2015 and likely will not be available for install for 4 or 5 days later.  Seems odd that a recall would be initiated without parts to accomplish the task.

Not really that unusual, since it happens with most manufacturers.  If a recall is initiated that only requires inspection of an installation and the replacement of the stock part only if it is damaged, such as the fairly recent brake line recall on Touring models, they didn't have to have a new part designed and made and not all parts needed to be replaced, so regular inventories could cover parts needs.  However, in a case where the manufacturer has to design a new part, and the supplier has to create or modify tooling to make the part, there can be significant delays.  In some cases this is why recall notices aren't sent out immediately as soon as the problem is identified, to head off the storm of complaints.  Reality is that the first of the new parts goes to the assembly line, where the problem is cut off and documented at the source.  Then when there is sufficient part inventory to start actually replacing parts on customer and dealer inventory vehicles, notifications are sent to dealers and customers.  This was the usual situation unless there was a serious safety issue involved.  If that was the case, dealers and customers would be notified ASAP, even if it meant recommending vehicles be parked until the parts were available or some other workaround could be applied.

I don't know if anyone cares, but I looked at some Victories and they appear to use exactly the same pins, and similar, but not exactly the same, clips. Their clips have the same metal wire (for lack of a better term) for the pin to grab, but the clip that it is attached to is polished metal, and thin.

Got my letter in the mail yesterday when I got home from work. I'll wait until my 10k service to have them take care of it. I've got the "knob and threaded speed clip" setup and don't plan on changing it even with the recall. They can toss the new parts in the TP and close the recall on mine.
