Thanks for this thread, my 2015 FLTRUSE just began not starting in gear yesterday, will start in neutral just fine. It's completely stock, nothing has been removed or changed. There was a previous problem with the cruise control dropping out and the gear indicator light not working, they said it was the clutch switch. Since it's under warranty, I think I'll take it in and let them find the problem.

Sounds like it needs a new left switchpack on handlebar. It's been occurring a lot lately on the Rushmore bikes.

Good luck with this, mine has been doing this (not starting in gear) since 4 weeks old (first service), 19,000 km now and the dealership has fixed it once
so they say back at 8,000km (changed switch) now back at 16,000 service it has failed again, I was thinking it may have something to do with what they
do during servicing, now waiting on new switch to arrive (8 weeks)so see what happens then.

Great now I have to test this too!  I know at first it worked, she died, and I was able to simply start her up. I did not even think about it. That was a year ago. I hope it still works.

Yes, my problem is the left hand switchpack, it seems like there is an ongoing problem with them. And they're on back order until after Sept 15 according to my dealer. They say the individual switches aren't available anymore, they replace the whole switch pack. And they're having a lot of trouble with the odometer reset switch too. It seems like such a waste to replace all the switches for a problem with one.

The left and right switchpacks have both been revised since they were first introduced in 2014, the right is on level B and the left on level A as best I can tell.  It seems they have some kind of ongoing quality problems.  Good luck.

That Harley would have initial difficulties with a new (only to them) system and application is so unexpected.

From a manufacturing standpoint, it is no more expensive to make a NO or NC switch. Why would one be 3X higher? Ans: Because HD can get away with it!!!! :bigcry:

I just tried this on mine and I am not having any problems.  If the switch packs were changed for 2015 that may explain it.

:huepfenlol2:   Good one Don.  Yup, here we have one more of the many "old to everyone else but Harley" bits of technology that works just fine for everyone else, but somehow H-D can't seem to borrow the technology without screwing it up.  Just think how much fun it would be if they ever tried to actually invent something really new on their own. :nervous:

I have a 15 and just had the switch replaced, so it is not OK for the 15's.  I have noticed a different feel to the trigger though.  Maybe it really is redesigned...?

Guess what, whilst waiting for a new switch it has started working, now when it goes in I hope they change it out and don't just
say yep we fixed it.

You probably have the latest "self healing" design from the superior minds at Harley.  Don't let anyone know, or everyone will want one.  They are rare and expensive, so Harley seldom installs one.

All the more reason I do NOT want a new Harley.  It never ends.  The new management are not 'motorcycle' people and just don't get it.  To them it's all about the $$$ and the bottom line.  I'm pretty much done forking over my hard earned $$$ for their latest and greatest.  I'll put my $$ into making what I already have better. :2vrolijk_21:
