Though that is what the builds are have you ever seen any CVO docs, literature or sales brochures that described them as Stage II ?  I never have.

I vaguely remember the first test I saw in a magazine referencing the fact that the motor was the equivalent of a Big Bore Stage II. Of course this was not official HD literature but a private magazine.

This bike was introduced during the time that Harley really got all "butt puckered", or tight arsed about legalities involving Screamin Eagle parts and the possible culpability they may have with the production of these parts. It was also around the time that they stopped putting "off road" SE parts in the accessory catalog and brought out a separate SE catalog.

I see some reddish hues in the top pic.

Here is a better pic:

I do remember, separate from the bikes, some round Screamin Eagle emblems that were around some of the 95" upgrade kits.  They were thin and adhesive backed.  If there's any ridge at all that would suggest a round emblem in there on top of the original perhaps that's what this is?

The only thing we know for sure is that none of us really know.  It's interesting to the couple dozen or so of us in the world that are still that interested in these old beasts.  Everyone else just thinks we're OCD numnuts anyway.

There are no ridges what so ever.. it's pretty much inter graded into the black paint.  The outer silver ring around the emblem is raised/rounded but also inter graded into the black paint with no ridges. Very smooth. If someone added this, they went to a lot of trouble. The P.O. denies that it was ever changed.

It's not separate pieces integrated together.  Just all one piece.  But I'm guessing that's what you're meaning.  So nothing unusual there.  There is also a raise on the outer circle.  That's normal too.  The other text on yours is the only unusual part.

I just grabbed all my original sales literature and dealer sheets from when the bikes were new.  None of those pics show it.  Also quickly scanned through all the old pics I'd ever taken of old SERGs over the years.  Again, yours is the only one with the extra script.

No idea what's going on.  Everything that can be compared suggests it's a one-off.  That still leaves the question, "from where?"  It's an interesting oddity.  Enjoy it's uniqueness.  :2vrolijk_21:

Yep.. don't really matter in the scheme of things.. I know that it's the only thing special on my stock 2000 SERG. I just would like to know the story.  I do really dig it though and am glad to have it on there.  :)

This really has me bugged.  Has anyone ever seen a 2000 SERG with 'stage two' on the console decal?

In 2000 there were two Big Bore Kits available for the Twin Cam engine. Stage I was pistosn and cylinders only, Stage II was pistons,  cylinders, 203 cams and a clutch spring. Technically ALL 2000 through 2002 SE touring bikes whether Road Glide or Road King were Stage II Big Bore kit equipped bikes from the factory.

Is it possible some early production 2000 SERGs had the stage two mention that was dropped sometime during the production run? HD does some crazy stuff from time to time and maybe the legal department had heartburn over the use of the Stage II badging. When comparing the two examples posted they look identical except that the Stage II is dropped on one. If this is truly what happened all bikes with the Stage II badging would be Black/Orange because that was the first color produced.
I had a 2000 Road King Classic that I added the 95" kit including the SE heads which rounded out the upgrade. The "kit" gave a choice between the 203 cams or the 211 cams as I remember and I chose the 203's because I was pulling a trailer a lot of the time.

I know this is ancient history and this thread is 10 years old but I thought I would give an update.

I talked to somebody from Harley Davidson. I explained the situation to them and they believed that this was on an early production bike and it was changed because it was causing confusion.

They also advised me to send in a letter requesting the history of my vin number.

I never saw this thread before. I had one of the first bikes that came out, Working at a Harley Dealer in Michigan.
That's very cool. I had collected all the literature and magazines featuring the O/B/W at the time. Unfortunately
I let it all go with the bike when I sold it. I don't remember ever seeing Anything like this.
I do still have the Dealership wall poster and one of the post cards.

This was my dream bike. When I saw it listed locally I jumped on it. Unfortunately my health Is failing and I do believe my riding days are just about over. It's still in good shape. I've always kept it inside in the air conditioning. The coming months will determine my decision. It's going to be hard to do. I'm sure to have sellers regret. Who knows I might even cry! ha! ha!
