Questions on use of TTS (or any) tuner on a "stock" bike
« on: October 14, 2015, 09:34:33 AM »

First off, I'm very happy with the performance and sound on my '15 SERGU.  I've considered removing the plugs as I did on my SE muffler on the '12 to give it a bit more umph sound wise.  However, I'm over the loud Harley as I'm getting older and the stock db level is just fine.  I did remove the inner extension pipe piece as it was already rusting in both pipes....plus I think the stock SE mufflers look better without the extensions.

ANYWAY, I'm thinking that any tune would be a good thing no matter stock header/pipes or decatted or Fulsac header and Fulsac baffles or aftermarket mufflers.  These things are so lean from the factory that a good tune should help the motor run better in any configuration other than the stock ECM settings?

I'm pondering on this for future consideration down the road after the 2 year factory runs out so it's not something I have to do tomorrow.  A tune alone isn't something that is discussed without also including exhaust and/or AC modifications.  It may not even be something that's worth pursuing but it was on my mind and I thought I would throw it out there to discuss.

....so here we go.....

Look at it this way... the stock tuned is a "canned" map. After taking a "canned" map and doing a full tune on the bike with a good flash tuning device (TTS) by a competent tuner the bike will run better, have better throttle response, and typically pick up some horsepower and torque.

Howard,

I've installed two Fullsac stage 1 kits for myself and a friend.  Even the map sent from Steve rendered much better (quicker)  throttle response on both bikes. I don't think that was from the exhaust.  I agree with you about the sound.  The 1.75" baffles are only slightly louder than stock.

That's sorta what I was thinking, Greg.  The header and muffler mods help but the tune really does all the "work" so to speak.  Good information.... :)

Money well spent getting a complete tune. Less heat also.  :2vrolijk_21:

I fully agree, a good tune makes the bike run cooler, smoother, a bit more power, and they can tune out the dead band the the throttle by wire.

I've managed to log some miles on my bike, measuring fuel mileage along the way. Still pulling high-40's mpg with my tune.

Just tuned a trike with VH head pipe some mufflers ( ???) and rest stock .. It was night and day from the canned map vs the tuned map.. Large % of changes in EGR, as well VE under light throttle was in fact rich .. so better MPG, cleaner throttle response, ..  :2vrolijk_21:

One thing I noticed after installing the Fullsac dx pipe and 2" baffles as it seemed very loud but when I changed the TTS map out with one I got from Steve at fullsac it ran way better and gets quieter and smoother the closer my tune gets.
