Fast Aire Windshields
« on: September 30, 2004, 10:35:01 PM »

Has anyone bought one of the 8 or 10" light smoke windshields from Fast Aire? Do they really form to the contour as there web page says? Are the edges finish buffed professionally?
Any help before I order would be appreciated.

I've purchased several FastAire windshields over the past couple of years for my previous bike (Ultra) and my SEEG.  I've always been pleased with the price, quality and quick delivery.

The HD windshield costs 4 times the price of the Fastaire one.  I would buy 4 Fastaires before I bought one HD.  Just my opinion.

I have bought three windshields from Fastaire, I like the service, the product and the fast delivery.

Well, the Fastair 10" windshield wasn't quite tall enough for me so I ordered and replaced it with a Rifle 13" model.  The height is perfect for me (6'-3" tall).  More importantly, I now can compare the two different makes side by side and have come to the conclusion that the "Rifle" product is far superior.  2 reasons - First, the Rifle shield is at least 50% thicker and pre-curved to fit the fairing.  Second, it doesn't seem to scratch as easy as the Fastair.  My 2 cents worth [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I won't argue with there.  The Fastair price is very good (almost disposable) the Rifle shield will set you back almost 3 times more.  Still, $100 ain't much when you consider the price of the bikes and the costs of all the other options.

I have two of the Fastaire windshields, an 8" and a 10" and for the price they are a good value. I did notice quickly that they scratch much easier than the Harley windshields, but like you say, they are almost disposible. The Harley windshields have some sort of anti-scratch coating on them. I realized this on the FXR3 windshield because the coating is breaking down and it is noticeable. I also saw evidence of this coating on a friends Ultra when he tried to polish out a deep scratch on his factory windshield. In both cases it looks similar to clear coat breaking down on an automobile paint job. Not real noticeable until the light hits it just right.

I agree with the the majority here (i have the 8" gray) they scratch way too easy but, the price is right (3 fast aire shields to one HD) so as recommended buy them 2 at a time (i beleive they offer a 5% discount for 2) [smiley=laugh.gif]

they scratch way too easy

I got a pair of the Fast Aire screens back right before the bike was delivered.  Had read that they scratched a bit easier than one might like but thought I'd try.

To cover all kinds of things (freshly painted engines, aluminum parts, forward facing lenses, places where water migration in to joints might be a rust-inducing problem, just all kinds of stuff) I have used a product called Nyalic for years.  Comes in a spray can.

It's a super protectant.  So I figured I'd try it as a test piece on one of the two wind screens.  Been on the screen a couple of months now.  Still very clear.  I do wipe it with the recommended types of cloth and the occasional soft cotton shop towel.  But so far there's not really a mark on it.

Of course I've not subjected the other screen to any "control" type treatment so can't make a direct comparison.  But if anyone is doing work around the shop or around the house and an aerosol protectant coating that literally comes from the Apollo program might be of benefit to you it's really good stuff.  You can find it at:
