Pipes and tuner
« on: December 15, 2015, 08:46:22 PM »

Hey guy's,

After searching other forums and trolling this one I have finally decided on Fullsac sport pipe, 2" cores and TTS tuner. I already have CVO slip-ons on the bike. Just wondering if the map supplied by Steve is close enough to just drop in and ride or should I V tune. I had the TTS on my Dyna and had the bike dyno tuned. Was hoping to avoid that this time. Thanks in advance for any help.

I installed the Fullsac C pipe, 1.75" cores and the TTS on my 11.5 Ultra 3 seasons ago. Flashed the ECM with Steve ' s map and haven't had any problems at all with the tune. It really was a simple "plug and ride" installation.

Could the bike benefit from a quality tune by an experienced tuner?  I'm sure it could, and I'm sure the tune could be improved with some time and effort doing the V Tune runs. I just haven't felt the need to do either of those.
Very happy with how the bike performs.

It's no secret that I trumpet the benefits of a good tune, however I downloaded one of Steve's maps and the bike ran very well. Of course a complete tune improved the power, mileage, reduced more heat, it all depends on what your requirements are. The Fullsac headpipe and cores are a great choice IME.

I got mine tuned and was even happier with a tune.   This was the first time i had a bike on the dyno.  All my rides will be on the dyno now.

A base map is just that a base map. It was tuned on another bike. Without a doubt the use of the flight mode ( v tune )  would dial it and tune the cells to your parts.. These bikes have head flow that can vary 10-15 CFM with ease and chamber volumes that can vary from 93 to 97 on avg so comp ratio is all over the place. then you get into fuel pressure that can be +/- 1-3 psi and then injectors that flow different. The saving grace is that the HD engine is really not that picky . and will run well seat of the pants in a wide area of AFR.  This vary fact is why many "think" that their bike runs great. However with a custom tune it will only enhance the drivability and overall performance of your bike.

V tune that and you will see that it will alter the ve numbers.. You are only making it better..  :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

To be clear not bashing Steve at Fulsac, he offers a great kit , just pointing out what is going on .  Test 10 bikes and you get 10 different maps   :)  Some may be very close others are changing 8-12 % on the VE numbers.. Final power numbers really may not change huge .. You spent a fair amount of coin on the bike no reason not to dial it in.. Steve gave you the great base map, now its up to you to tweak that and become more familiar with your tuner.

That right there is about as well as can be said about that question.

Thanks for posting such a detailed explanation. Had no idea there was such a huge variation in these motors. I now understand the need for additional tuning . Sure am glad for the flight recorder upgrade. I had an 07 dyna that I v tuned with a laptop in a bag, ended up damaging one of the usb ports. Got decent results with just pipes and a/c but when I put 204's in I was not proficient enough to tune the bike. Took it to a tuner and the bike ran fantastic. Hopefully with Fullsac pipes and his base map with some research and patience I can get a decent tune.
