Opinions on Crusher TC-25D Bolt-in Cams for Twin Cam
« on: December 27, 2015, 10:27:43 AM »

Thinking about Crusher TC-25D Bolt-in Cams for my Breakout. Would love to hear opinions. Looking for more Low end torque than the 255 cams along with more horsepower. Thanks to all.

A decent cam but it is actually an Andrews 57 which can be had for considerably less money.

Wouldn't an Andrews 54 be a good choice?

Depends on what defines a good choice?
It will take a hit down low and pull harder on top than a 57. The 57 on the surface by specs seems a lot like a 4° advanced 54 but if you have the cams side by side the lobes tell a different story. Much steeper ramps on the 57
Raise the compression and they are close to the same but the 57 will always have the low end off idle advantage.
The 54 has always been a little late to come on even when compression is adjusted.

Without increasing compression you will be fighting a losing battle there

Hard to argue against a 54 ....it just works ....some squeeze....works better

Isn't this a possible candidate for a set of GMR 577's, they usually pull very close to the same on the bottom end and pull out better on top. Designed for stock, maybe a ..030 headgasket! The exhaust will determine the chart.  twinotter

I put a 54 in my stock CVO. Reason not a 57 was less intake noise. The 54 is not real sexy but it is quiet. :orange:

I see he is running the pro street pipe. It works for mid and top end power . The rear wheel on those is heavier than the std bagger so there is power loss there , and the counter balancers from what see do not help with power either.

Even the stock 255 will have a dip down low then pick up and then sign off fast.. The pipe is the biggest culprit here .

here is a 103 at approx 10.1 comp ratio with a 255 cam. Now this thing should hit like a hammer off the bottom.. BUT due to pipe you can see that even this stout cam for low end tq just did not work.. Its not the cam but the EX system.

Here is a breakout with our cam and a V&H big radius pipe. With the stock 255 cam and these pipes it made 87 and 106

Here is another CVO softail with VH staggered big shots with the 255 and our cam. Sure there was a nice gain but the pipe again was not up to the task performance wise .

VS the same CVO 110 with out cam and a good pipe..  I would rather show you up front what you can look to see with the proper parts vs you thinking that a cam will be the fix all.. Its only one part in the engine, you need all the parts to play well together.

What pipe do you recommend?

Well there in lies the issue there are not many pipes for that bike . that offer performance across the curve. IF the  2-1 style  is something you like than D&D bobcat or low cat would work very well .  I know many think that the CVO break out is alight bike but really at 730 before rider is not a light weight compared to a dyna ,

One thing that many over look is the stock head pipe with a good slip on muffler . You would be shocked at how well a set of RUSH slip on mufflers really works. Not as sexy looking but the seat of the pants feel is outstanding and the sound is extremely nice as well .

If it where mine and I wanted a nice tq curve I would opt for the slip on rush mufflers myself . 2.0 core and go .

I have not tuned it on a CVO break out so I cannot tell you.. as well I have no dyno sheet  , but I would  guess that is a given  ;).

With what I know about the pro pipe I would bet it would need a hole drilled in the baffle and a bit of tuning , and engine tuning to make it work to its best.
