Seeking guidance for 2009 CVO Springer upgrades
« on: December 31, 2015, 07:06:07 AM »

My 2009 CVO Springer has 15K miles and I keep hearing about lifter issues, so I am going to get them replaced instead of getting stranded. I have a few questions and am hoping to get some of your expert feedback. The bike is stock with Vance & Hines pipes and whatever re-flash the dealer did when I bought it. Am looking to make some other sensible improvements while it is in the shop. Here are my questions:
1) What are the best replacement lifters to install so I don't have to worry about this again anytime soon?
2) I enjoy the midrange performance of my bike with the stock cams. Is there a cam that would boost my power across the entire RPM range? If so, what is suggested? I don't want to sacrifice low and mid range power.
3) What are some good computer maps? I want to "set it and forget it". No desire to screw around with a laptop making tweaks after the initial install/programming.
4) Are there other things I should consider along with these changes? I want to keep the bike reliable but, of course, l would love all the extra power I can get.
Thanks in advance!

You need to pick the person/company you intend to have do this work and talk to them with your wish list. Then come back to site and let everyone chime in on what worked for them and didn't that could be related to your tuners choices.
Sounds like you are not fully aware of how "Maps" work so get someone you trust that can also do the work to go over it and answer your questions. The cam manufacturers know more about products and there effects on performance at all RPM ranges than anyone on this site, call them and spend a few minutes. They have tech people for this purpose, call a few and listen to them.
This will be a learning experience.

You can increase the HP and TQ all the way across the powerband simply by switching to the Fullsac X pipe, Fullsac baffles (back in your stock mufflers) and the tuner (Fullsac will also provide that with the map already loaded).  That way, you keep your motor completely stock.

This is all that I've done to this motor and I'm very impressed with the performance difference.

Lifters?  You'll probably get more recommendations for S&S than anything else (they make a standard and premium...standard should work fine). GMR gets good reviews too on this forum.

Cam?  You're going to get many different responses because everyone thinks their setup is the best.  Listen to some of the engine guys on this forum for advice.  Make sure the cam you choose doesn't sacrifice low end torque for high end performance.

Fuel Maps?  If you're going to spend the money to upgrade cams and use a canned map, I think you're throwing money away.  If you swap cams, get the bike dyno tuned.  It'll cost more, but you get what you pay for.  I'd also be cautious about taking advice from the service counter at your HD dealer.  There are guys on this site that know much more about performance.  Good luck.

I didn't think Fullsac had baffles for softails. :nixweiss:

Well many of the springer guys run the fish tail kit for that bike if that is the case they work not great but keep the cam small.( stock will do the best  if that pipe is what I think it is, ) . Have a TTS PV or SE PRO tuner installed and properly tuned.  Lifters yes we have ours , S&S has theirs etc.. Quality lifter and relax....

I wonder how a 570 in a 110 at 10.7:1 would work
Cam retarded 4deg. Puts both the intake and exhaust in better places with stock or better yet flowed heads.

Port a set of 103 heads

set compression at 10.3

run the afore mentioned 570

wont need a 1.9 intake to make power I assure you
