rough ride
« on: January 29, 2007, 10:25:30 AM »

I got a 2005 SEEG and when I hit a bump on the highway, the bike just about lifts me off the seat  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]. Can anyone tell me why, I'm 195 lbs and have between 10 and 12 psi in the shocks.

Does it feel like your bottoming out? My guess is there is not near enough pressure in your shocks. Before I changed to the Legends, I always kept between 20-30 psi, depending on type of riding and if I'm solo. I had heard early on that HD had a misprint in the OM, try pumping them up and see if that does it.

avs,

I also had the same problem before I switched to the Progressive 440s.  I was using the owner's manual, then read here to put in somewhere around 25-35 lbs, depending on 1 or 2 up.  And when set up that way, my SERK rode like a buckboard wagon.

Absolutely not enough air in the shocks. Experiment and you'll do better. Not good, but better. Many have given up on the stock rears and replaced. Search the site and you'll find lots and lots of discussions on the '05 EG w/ many giving up the convenience of air for Progressive 440s. Wife and I are very pleased w/ our switch. Once you get over that, look for some discussion on the front. Many have changed to different weight fluid and many have been suprised to see improper amounts of fluid in the forks.

Minamum of 15 psi on the front and 30 psi on the back, before I switched to the Progressive 440. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Welcome aboard avs! Good luck with the new bike. I run 20 PSI solo and 25-30 PSI 2-up on the rear shocks. Crank up the shocks and this should help. The RK eliminated front air shocks a few years ago. Proper oil level and heavier fork oil will firm up the front. Enjoy the site! ;) Hoist! 8-)

Welcome [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]I never could get the ride I was looking for with air shocks on my last seeg. Went to progressive 440s night and day difference over stock.

What he said! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif], nice clean installation and no screwing around with air pumps etc.  While you are at it change to progressive fork springs as well or do it at your 20K mile service interval while you are changing the fork oil.  Good luck!

Welcome AVS to the site.  Another vote here for the Progressive 440's which made my bike ride and handle better.  Try increasing the air pressure little by little as others have stated first.

Welcome to the Site AVS [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Congrat's on your first post  :) [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]  [smiley=drink.gif] [smiley=orange.gif]

My '04 SEEG did the exact same thing when it was new....the damn thing almost threw me off on the interstate >:(

I checked the air pressure, and they only had about 5 lbs!! You surely are bottoming out.

I currently run 25-40lbs, it made a big difference, not perfect, but much safer.

I'm currently in the process of getting the Platinum air ride. That will be a sure cure for my issues.

Again, Welcome aboard!

Grover

Grover, are you getting the kit that is for Road King's ? I didn't see much info on the Platinum Air Ride web site. You have to use the contacts page. I went to www.choppersrus.com to get more info. They had some pictures and pricing. Do you know how much weight the kit adds to the bike ? I'll be curious to hear your feed-back.
