John,
Dave and I have the same engine parts but our exhaust system is different. Our builds are identical on the HP but my TQ is 129 (could be from the exhaust).

Our heads have been milled 0.052 and the chamber adjusted to 96cc. Currently with a 0.30 head gasket the build has a Calculated CR (cold) of 10.78, Corrected CR of 9.6 that gives a Cranking Compression of 201. Using the 117 cylinders and pistons the numbers change to Calculated CR (cold) of 10.1, Corrected CR of 9.0 that gives a Cranking Compression of 185.

There would still be gains by increasing the cubic inches but compared to the current build the lower compression would effect the overall outcome. As for myself I would like to keep the Calculated CR around 10.5 to 11 with the Cranking Compression at 200 or a little above. I don't mind using a little fuel additive to compensate for the higher cranking compression.
Had my 110 CVO heads and jugs done by dewey's.  Seem to work well on my mild build.  I'm running the 259E cam, the HPI 55 Throttle body, 5.3 injectors, compression was set at 10.8 to 1.  Bike runs super smooth and makes very good power.  124 HP and 125 torque.

Wonder how it would do with the 117 Kit, just the pistons and jugs.  I know I would loose some compression.

Both of these heads were ported by me. I purchased Deweys head business in 2008. Since then I have ported over 800 sets of heads and done a lot of repair work. Dewey had a stroke and could no longer port heads.

Don,
Just wanted to let you know that I have 34k on the build since you did the heads and fitted the pistons to the cylinders. There have been no issues at all. I'm keeping a close eye on the 117 HD Kit threads. I'm hopeful that there will more piston choices available by mid year. I have also heard some rumors of poor longevity with the pistons and cylinders in this kit.

I haven't heard anything on the hd kit yet. I have heard there were piston issues with the axtell drop on kit. Also heard they have pulled that kit from sales.

That right there, is the "POWER of the internet".
The kits have been out for TWO THREE WEEKS and internet rumors are out there about their supposed failings and lack of LONGEVITY!!

In tragic internet style, of course, the rumors were related to a totally different kit (Axtell) but, hey, 117.....they're all the same, right?

Funny not everyone made the connection to Dewey and HD Street Performance. One other CVO owner sent me a PM and he has 50K on his. Nice to hear
I just got off the phone with CP we will be addressing the void with a 4cc domes piston. Not carved in stone yet but I think there is a void there. The 259e is real happy at 10.8 but still on alive at 10.5. 9.8:1 is pretty dull off idle to 2700

Hasn't this package only been out a few weeks?  That's some harsh "longevity" standards unless I've got some product release info mixed up.

We certainly will find out pretty quick. Sales are strong and a lot of these will go right to the dyno and then when the weather squares away they will be tested.
The piston is 4032 and top quality, similar to the OEM Mahle, no problem with those.

Amen, Brother. I was the first on the forum to buy the SE117 kit, and the negative stuff started almost immediately. I also got some good positive feedback from the forum, but some of the negative stuff was pretty far fetched. I've put 600 miles on with the new engine and I'm very happy with the power it makes.

Yeah, but, how's the LONGEVITY?

Axtell kit was out probably a year or so before hd followed suit. The information I got was bad luck on the Axtell kit from a builder that had put 3 of them in. The info on axtell not selling anymore for now was from a company source. Reasoning was piston issue. Everybody follows the HD stuff and website. As far as I know that's the only kit or product from axtell that had issues and the company is taking it on their selves to find a remedy. Not bashing them. Not going to. I don't care for bashing or arguing with anyone. I'm here for information like everybody else.

Certainly not bashing. I'm posting only to point out that the 117" kit that Axtell had offered differs greatly from this HD kit in that their kit requires case boring to fit their (thick walled) iron-sleeved cylinders, Whether your engine was a 96/103/110.  If you had previously installed Axtell's 113" kit, your cases would've been bored, already. This meant that if you already had their 113 kit, then their 117 kit would be a drop-in. So, Axtell had a "117 drop-in kit". They had issues with their product and are working on it.

Now, skip ahead to last month and HD announces this SE kit with steel-liner and super thin-walled spigots designed to fit the 110 cases without boring (hence, 'drop-in').  So, coincidentally, the MoCo comes out with a completely different product that happens to fit the same description as a "117 drop-in kit".  But HD didn't "follow suit" They happened to create an alternative method and arrived at the same goal. Now, we Beta testers (!) get to learn if they did it well!
