Harley 117 Drop on Build in progress
« Reply #316 on: March 19, 2016, 10:36:08 AM »

Surly on the 660SM   Its all about cylinder fill  & all the parts work together..  I do not have enough hand's on to say really , I mean look at the sheets T man did have up,   never seemed to be a big number roller on both sides.  IF I recall your build cam in right where his thumper build from another poster on here ... going from the 4 inch to 4.125 may be of huge help  :nixweiss:

Yeah, I've since taken it to 4.060 (no chart yet) and it butt-dynoed much better. I can't fin d Tman's chart that we looked at before.
It seems that every chart I've compared, your 600 kicks serious ass.
I can't help but wonder about tossing one in mine and where it would go . I think it would likely extend further right than the 660 and likely get 5 or 6 more on both sides.

for my clarity, a custom piston was used in this build, or was the KIT piston used? BTW  :2vrolijk_21:

Steve if you put your kit in a softail breakout how much less do you think it would make considering the 240 tire and being a counterbalanced motor?

Awesome job Steve!! certainly bested my guess and now can't wait to get my parts to you.

Not that there is anything wrong with the torque you've made here but what do you think it will take to have the torque line a gradual curve instead of flat and then curved?

I will be bucking the grain and using my Boarzilla, might neck down the opening just a touch though, your thoughts?

I would leave the pipe as is , run it , the curve is dictated by the pipe ,

As for the cam its hard to say I do not recall what you had done to the heads..  Again guys this is not about 1 part.. its about ALL parts working together.. From the head porting , to the cam to the pipe etc.. then having the proper tuner , take the time to find what it wants to make the power that is there.

The kit is new and I feel that there will be more to learn and I am happy to learn along the way.. Yes I still learn things in this and I love it..

The next build will have a Pwr dual with crushers.. Now that's a known set up and should do very well.. I do feel that we will see a completely different tq curve than the 2-1 laid down

As for the curve , its just some ink on paper .. What I can tell you is that this kit has a lot of pull.. 130 tq by 2500 ??  I mean thats a boat load and I can tell you that this bike has a serious traction issue with this build.. I took it for a spin  ( no pun) and it was into 3rd still fighting to find traction... Things happen extremely fast for a 900 lbs bagger.. flick the throttle and hang on . Roll on hard in 1 st short shift to 2nd and snap it open makes the front wheel hang for a second or two .. And that is without trying..

I to would be interested in hearing the answer to this question

Also how would the D&D Lowcat work with this or would you suggest a better pipe for the breakout

Yep, that's what I meant about effortless power everywhere with this combination. And then there's that top end Rush shifting into 4th 5th 6th and 7th gears when you are holding the throttle wide open and Fanning the clutch like a dirt bike just before the limiter, Priceless...
David, how many days hours minutes seconds?LOL

Nice Steve, I don't have that kind of snap with my 131 so clearly I need to make some changes. :drink:
