New Harley Roadtech Zumo 590
« on: January 27, 2016, 04:13:13 PM »

Does anyone know why this new Zumo 590 unit will not work with the CVO touring bikes? I think this Harley Road Tech version of the 590 only came out a couple of weeks ago. I'd like to get it for my 2013 Road Glide Custom. I also saw the NIM module for the 660 will not work with my bike, (the parts manual singles out my my specific year and model) and me and my local dealership are not sure why? Maybe some of you tech savvy guys can explain it :nixweiss:

Here's the link for the new Zumo  http://www.harley-davidson.com/store/road-tech-zumo-590-navigation-system---domestic

What is the benefit of the 590 over the 660?

Here's a list of the features. I really like the twisty road feature. It's also supposed to be more readable in the sunlight and also have a glove friendly touch screen

I wonder if it includes the lifetime maps like the generic Zumo does.

I also see they don't list the TPMS but it would be nice if it worked.

Does it have the radio interrupt (NIM) like the older Harley Zumos.

That's a good point about the lifetime maps. I don't see a LM anywhere in the description. For $800 it should include free map updates :nixweiss:

For $800 it should include a bluetooth connection to my shorts for a friendly rub while riding.  Compared to what other completely competent GPS units cost nowadays these things are outrageous.

The HD part description states "590LM". This means lifetime maps, so there. Also this thing is $620.00 at all the 20% off stores, and they are out there, so still alot, but waterproof, increased vibration tolerance, inc the HD store database, you can operate with a glove (??) has all the stuff so you can use it in your car, a home charger etc and is very easy to update and works with the NIM. I had a 660 Road Tech on my SERG, I paid $560 with discount and used it for 4+ years and sold it for $475 so it only cost about $25/year and it was worth that.

Looking up a regular Garmin 590LM it has the TPMS option but I don't see that listed on the HD site. I did search the web on pricing on a regular 590 and couldn't find any deals out there. 20% off the HD version looks to be a deal for that model. I want to make sure first though that it does come with the TPMS feature. Anyone have that info? Also would it fit on the 660 cradle? If not would you have to pull new wires?

1bad,

That link shows this GPS doesn't work with the '14 and later CVO baggers, which I believe is b/c they have the Infotainment system with GPS already in it.  I haven't seen the parts manual that restricts the 590 on your model, so can't comment.

not sure what benefit to road tech vs basic 590 zumo from Garmin

no mention of dealer POIs or NIM functionality.

garmin version does have lifetime maps.

i do like the bigger screen then my 660 and the improved media capabilities. never been happy with the IPOD interface of the HK.

pandora control is also a nice touch.

this also looks interesting

When the Zumo 590 came out I took a serious look at it.  From what I can find, it is hard to find a discount on the internet for one.  I am sure Garmin has a MAP (minimum advertised price) set on them.

If it is possible to pick on up from a 20% off HD dealer, that would handily beat any other price I have seen.

When I read the blurb on the HD site, I did miss the fact they stated it as a 590LM.  I was surprised it was not a highlighted feature.  I know LM are a big deal to me.

I am sure that they don't list this a being compatible with infotainment bikes because they want you to think that the infotainment GPS is superior.

I ordered the 590 today but still can't get an answer to whether or not the HD version has the upgradable TPMS option or not. Dealer did not know either because they haven't got one yet. I made it clear that if it did not have that I would not purchase which they were ok with. I can't imagine the HD version wouldn't have what the regular Zumo 590 would have but if anyone knows for sure please share. Also trying to figure out if I will have to change the cradle?
I will say I have reaserched the regular 590LM and it really has some great features. The big reason I am stepping up is the "twisty roads" option that I love. I am VERY directionally challenged and use my GPS almost every time I ride (can barely find my way home without it even in my car..) and am hoping to find new roads where I usually ride.
