Just google valley racing in Beecher.  I'm sure Brian will work with your schedule.  As for tuning in cooler weather---I don't feel that it's an issue.  It just makes the one doing the tuning cold.  I feel you would be much better off in the long run by letting Brian do a complete and proper tune as opposed to a rush tune by someone in daytona whose only agenda is making money from the masses during bike week.

Which I had a good tuner 125 to 150 miles from me.  Thats a nice ride.  My tuner is just over 600 miles away.  Still a nice ride but requires a couple days.

I had Brian (Valley) do a tune a few years back........worth the trip from Michigan, about 450 miles.
Doubt you'll get a proper tune in Daytona, unless you spend a day at Doc's. He's probably booked full by now. I'd call and see if you can get in.

Thanks to everyone for the advice.  I have had several emails concerning this and they all say to spend the time to drive to Beecher and take it to Brian at Valley Racing for a proper dyno by someone who knows what they're doing.  I spoke with Brian yesterday and he promised to have it done by the end of the month so I would have it in time for Daytona.  I'm loading up the bike in my trailer this morning and I'm headed to Beecher.  I'll update when the bike is finished.

I dropped my bike off at Valley this morning.  It wasn't too bad of a trip, just 2 hours and 15 minutes each way.  Dave unloaded my bike from the trailer and brought it inside.  I have to say, that place is pretty impressive.  I watched Brian Dyno a bike while I was there.  There were bikes everywhere.  He's very busy.  Dave told me I should have my bike by the end of next week.  I'll let you know how it runs.  My local Harley dealer (Kegels in Rockford, Illinois) swears that there is no possible way he can Dyno a bike in this weather, and that the temperature needs to be at least 60 degrees before a Dyno can be done correctly.  He said when the weather is 80 degrees in Daytona next month my bike is gonna run like crap.  I'll post the results when I return.  I want to thank all of you who responded to my questions on this forum and also those who emailed me as well.  I really appreciate your advice.

Good reason not to let that dealer tune it

I had my dealer dyno tune my bike once, and only once. I wasn't impressed.  Don't get me wrong, Im sure there are some great techs at dealerships on the dynos, but for the most part they are dyno operators, or not given the proper time to really tune the bike correctly. I had Jamie at Fuel Moto build and dyno tune my bike...What a difference. It runs perfect. The temp thing is a joke...Pretty sure the garage with the dyno is heated. And if its tuned at 90 degrees, does it mean your screwed when you ride at 45 degrees...lol

HD Super Tuner "quick tune" question
« Reply #24 on: February 07, 2016, 02:21:25 PM »

My tuner worked at several different hd dealers. I followed him to the new dealer each time.  Racer. But he also liked to tune above 50 degrees. He blamed air density and temp the bikes would normally be run at. Don't know if it's right or wrong. Just pointing it out. And I did a Daytona tune one time. Old mm system on a PCii. Remember them? Ran like crap back at home due to elevation change. Took it back to buddy and showed him the 2 hp I picked up and he laughed. Asked if I had to wait for the tune, bike cool down first then final runs it was hot... Put my old map back and my popping cleared up on ride home. Pretty amazing. But I wouldn't put dealers out as tuners, I would question them first. Sounds like you did right thing going to independent in this case. Recommended and your sounds little hokey
I would recommend an independent nearby when my tuner moved to Australia. He currently is the tech guy for whole Far East and runs two teams in Australia.  But shop he left me to use now was a race buddy. So good hands.
As for tru duals. Worse pipe below 3k. Only way to fix is bump compression and change cam. It's really just shifting the curve. I have gone through trying to get rineharts to work when they were so popular.
Monster rounds are nice pipes. I like them for sound and how they hold up to use. It's your head pipe that is hurting if anything. The stock slip ons are too quiet for most and lean is where the bike has probably been running since you changed head pipe even with a flash or "quick tune" which is really not a thing.  Did it see dyno time for "quick tune"? I guess yes if temp matters but still think it's just a load and run it for 150
As for price each shop is different. Seen flat fee to hourly rate. Winner is flat fee when it takes hours. Or hourly when a can map is close.
As for changing cam, cheaper to put Vance and Hines power duals on. Plus what cam will replace a 255 to slide power to low rpm?
Probably none and bump in compression isn't advisable for 255 anyways. So ride it with tune knowing your little weak under 3k compared to stock and enjoy noise (which is ok) or change head pipe to pick up the 10-20ft lbs you lost with tru duals.

Or jump into the 117 thread and figure out what cam with those parts to make it all stronger in all rpms. (Woods 400 or 408 with spring change would work)
But that is a crazy amount of work just because you like the looks or sound of a tru dual. Easier just not to race your buddies light to light. Tell them you can't get a ticket because of work or something.
Anyways it won't hurt it after your tune. Just might be soft down low

North Star,
Yes, Loves Park is quite a bit closer.  I actually called Dragos and he told me he couldn't guarantee I would have it before March first, so based on the many voices who responded favorably about Valley Racing, I took it there.

No issues with the "bike" getting tuned in cooler weather, hi or low elevations. The ECM is designed and will make proper adjustments in almost every rideable temperature and elevation. My dyno sits at 1100 feet and I have tuned my personal bikes at temps from 50 deg to over 110. Its very common for my own bikes to get tuned in the summer heat and one days ride later we are at 9800 feet sitting in Silverton Co at 45 degrees. The Delphi ECM is an amazing piece of technology. The reason dyno operators don't want to tune in the cold is because it's just plain miserable. No one enjoys riding a bike in sub 50 temps with out proper gear. Imagine sitting in front of a 500 CFM fan for three hours with no helmet and gloves getting 40 degree air blown in your face. Same thing when it's over a 100. It's not fun.

Steve, Thanks for the straight info on the temperature issue.  What you're saying makes sense to me....if what the dealer told me was true then if I got my bike tuned at 90 degrees, then the first time I rode at 45 degrees it would run like crap....makes no sense!  I appreciate your answer based on real life experience.  I have a fundamental knowledge of how the ECM works but I don't fully understand it.  I'm glad Delphi has it figured out though.  Thanks again for your help.

I got my bike back from Valley last week.  I really won't know how it runs until Bike Week next month, but I gained about 6 HP according to the map.  Also, the temperature outside was low 20's and the Dyno was done at 62 degrees based on what is printed on the map.  Dave went over the map with me and explained just what it all represented.  I have to say that I am very impressed with Brian, Dave, and the entire experience at Valley Racing.  Brian told me that the Dyno would cost $350 but it could be less if it didn't take as long as he thought and he promised I would have it by the end of February.  The tune was completed in 5 days and I was charged only $300 which I thought was a testimony to their honesty since I could have been charged the full $350 and never have known the difference.  Overall, I am really glad I followed everyone's advice and had the tune done at Valley.  Thanks to everyone who has helped me along the way, especially Steve and Hawgzilla. This is an amazing forum filled with very knowledgable members who are always willing to help.
