Stereo Help - JL 7.7 Install and amp relocation
« on: April 05, 2016, 10:25:51 PM »

Hi everyone,

New to the forum.  I recently purchased my second Road Glide, a 2011 Road Glide CVO and am doing a build on it.  This will be my third build but my first on a touring bike with a stereo system.  I find building the bike and researching and finding the parts and wrenching myself to be as exciting as the riding afterwards and gives me a sense of pride when people ask who built it and I can tell them it was me.  Although I struggle through most wrenching with youtube and the forums, I have zero knowledge on stereo systems.

I just removed the touring pack and am putting the detachable 4 point system on it.  I have JL Audio 7.7" marine speakers and bag speaker lids to match.  I also purchased the Pickard Hidden Fairing Support bracket which has a mounting spot for an amp.

Will the CVO amp run my JL bag speakers if I just run the wires that ran to the Tourpack speakers into the bags or should I be placing an amp in the fairing?  If i keep the HD amp, I read a couple threads where guys mounted them between the bag and wheel, which is probably what I would end up doing as well as I do not want it in the bag.

Here is link to speakers:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/JL-Audio-M770-CCX-SG-TB-7-7-Marine-Boat-Speakers-100-W-4-Titanium-Sport-/301084428310

If I need to purchase an amp, what amp should I run?  The speakers say they are 100W 4ohm and it suggests an amp with 75-150 W of continuous power per channel.  If I buy an amp to fit these speakers, I am assuming they will blow the front factory fairing speakers?  Should I upgrade them as well and if so, what fits the factory hole that would be suitable with what I have now?

If you have any links to a good thread with thorough directions on moving the amp and wiring from the rear where the tourpack is to the front that would be greatly appreciated.  I need the Amp relocation for Dummies version.

Thanks in advance everyone, look forward to spending alot of time on here in the future.

Arc or Fosgate would be my choice. The factory amp is pretty much a paper weight imo. I replaced my speakers with focal & amp with Arc & very pleased. The JL's should do you well as I have them in a wakeboard boat & well pleased!

So I have:
JL 7.7" marine speakers for rear - 4 ohm
Pickard fairing support bracket with amp mount

About to order - Arc KS125.4 amp

Can I run J&M’s  ROKKER XX series 7.25” speakers in the front?  They are 2 ohm and the other speakers are 4 ohm.  Is this a problem or less then ideal setup?

Thanks man,

I posted my questions over on HDForums as well and some of the guys there gave me some guidance.

I ended up with the following for my build:
JL 7.7 marine speakers for rear bags
Arc 602 6.5" front fairing speakers and adapters
Arc KS125.4 amp for rears
Cerwin Vega B2 amplifier (1000w 150wx2 @ 4 ohms) for fronts.

Hopefully I can find someone to wire this all in for me, lol....
