Who's running the Axtell Oil Bypass system???
« on: April 20, 2016, 07:33:08 AM »

Hey Guys. Anyone running the Axtell Oil Bypass system? My '04 SE Eglide has 69k miles on it now. I get about 10psi, and maybe a little less on 80+ degree days oil pressure at hot idle and 25 to 28??? at 70mph. I don't recall EVER seeing over 30 psi oil pressure even when the engine was new. Is this adequate oil pressure for an unabused and never dogged motor? Some folks are using the Axtell Bypass system which I understand increases the oil pressure to 50+ at highway speeds, which sounds too high to me. I do hear more valve train /sewing machine noise than I would like to hear these days. BTW, running Synn 3 oil as always and installed a new SE oil pump and cam chain tensioner kit at about 30k miles. What pros and cons??? Oh yeah, another question? What about installing new lifters ? Is that something that is commonly done these days too? I can see that maybe new lifters might elliminate some of the noise. Thanks

So you updated the plate at the same time?? have you checked the pressure with a manual gauge ..

Yes, updated to the SE plate and installed new SE high output oil pump at the same time.

Borrow or buy a real certified mechanics oil pressure gauge and tap into the case where the sending unit for the dash gauge is installed.  Even better, use a T fitting so you can have the real gauge operating at the same time as the dash gauge, then compare the two as you operate the bike.  You may find the stock gauge or sending unit isn't very accurate (gasp!).

Hot idle pressure usually is in the 8 - 12 psi range, depending on actual oil temp and oil viscosity, and on a system that's working well the pressure should jump up almost immediately as you come up off idle.  At 2000 rpm mine has reached mid scale of the dash gauge, which is approximately 32 psi.  Accelerate smoothly until you exceed 4000 rpm and you may notice the pressure increases a bit more as the pump output exceeds the ability of the bypass to regulate it.  That's not an issue unless it becomes excessive, which could mean the bypass valve is stuck or sticking.

Btw, Harley only lists one specification for oil pressure on the CVO 103's and it's 30 - 38 psi @ 2000 rpm and normal operating temperature (230° F).

try a auto meter electric unit i have to replace mine about every year  >:( Sender reads off , common issue I am happy that the HD one works as well as it does .. You need to check this before moving forward. I have seen a few SE plates have issues but its not very common
