Comcast customer service - I just have to rant!
« on: May 08, 2016, 09:41:24 AM »

So, last month Comcast decided to raise my rate $50/month for no apparent reason. I'd had enough so I went to one of their stores and turned in all my equipment and cancelled my account. I've been waiting for them to correct my final bill to show what I owe for the two days of service before I cancelled and today I get a bill for the ridiculous increased price (now past due) that prompted my cancellation and this month's bill at a "new reduced price" that they've given me out of the goodness of their heart.

Wanting to get to an end, I called "customer service" and after about 15 different automated prompts, I got a very nice lady (from somewhere overseas) and told her my problem. She pulled up my account and, after about 5 minutes, told me that she could see the records from where I turned in ALL of my equipment but there's nothing to indicate I want to close my account!! Then she tells me in order to get this mess straightened out, she needs to transfer me to the next level of "customer service". After a few seconds on hold, she comes back to tell me that they don't work Sunday and asks that I call back tomorrow.

Direct TV screwed me over years ago, on top of terrible service issues, and I'll never put another dish on my house!

Now I'm trying ATT and their Uverse stuff. So far so good but it's early. I guess if/when they let me down I'll be hanging an antenna on the house.

Thanks for letting me rant.

I understand your frustration Joe.  We had Time Warner for years but when the TW / Comcast merger/deal/whatever it was happened we wound up with Comcast as our provider.  Simply awful.  Had numerous problems - pixilation on TV, slowness and outages on internet, etc., etc.  Then they wanted to start charging me for a tech to come out when the problem was not at my house.  It was always upstream and their problem.

Went with AT&T DSL for internet and Dish for TV for several years but when AT&T U-Verse came to my neighborhood I switched to that immediately.  Works much better than Comcast ever did but I have had some technical problems.  The difference I can tell you is that U-Verse customer service and the tech they send out are much, much better than anything I ever encountered with Comcast.

Something interesting a tech told me several months ago.  AT&T now owns Direct TV and tech says they are really pushing customers to switch to it to free up bandwidth for some new really, really high speed internet service they will be rolling out for commercial customers.

Sounds like HD customer service that I've experienced.  :drink:

I'm with you on Comcast.. the worst company ever. I have a hatred for them that I'll take to the grave. I will never, ever, use Comcast again. In fact, when those xfinity guys at the mall ask me if I want service, I give them an ear full, then they lie and tell me they're not part of Comcast. My wife has to drag me away because she knows I'll pick a fight with them.

When I moved the only option for internet in my area was Comcast so I gave tv/internet a try. In short, after one month they couldn't get tv to work, sent 6 different techs which were contractors, never gave me new equipment which they promised they would, charged me installation and 1 month of service for a service I never had, had to call a corporate number I found online and talk to an executive to get the bill dropped and service cancelled. I kept the internet because I had no choice, but the executive locked my cost at $30 a month, and on the first day AT&T internet was available I cancelled with a smile on my face. Not to mention that the two years I had the internet were wrought with problems; I would lose connection everyday about 2pm, and every time my neighbor had issues, they would cut my line to boost their signal.

While I was still fighting to get my Comcast bill dropped, I had Dish Network installed. The (real) technician had all 4 rooms running within an hour. I even told the exec from Comcrap that they've had a month to get this to work and there is a wire coming from the ground, and Dish puts a thing on the back of my house and points it into outer space and I get tv! Man I was pissed...

As far as AT&T/Uverse goes, their customer service is ok. Once in a while I'll call them to get a promotional price on something to keep the bill down. My only complaint is that they farm out some of their calls to India, and not that I don't like "Mike" from Bangladesh, they don't seem to have the same authority as customer service in the states. The internet seems pretty stable and consistent. They ran fiber to the node that services my block and I can get the fastest speeds now. The tv service is ok, but lacks some features that Dish offered. I am pleased overall.

I saw that at the neighbor's house all the time, and I would ask him how he could stand watching tv like that. This wave of pixilation would wash over the tv from top to bottom every few minutes. He asked, "yours doesn't do that, that's not normal"?

Man I hate Comcast.

Went through the same crap with Charter Cable. Spent 21 days waiting for them to fix a cable outage at our house. Seems like evertyime we had it set up for them to come out the tech would do a remote check on lines in the area and saw no issues so he would cancel our service call. I was so pissed I called them up and really let them have it. They told me I had to take my equipment to one of their locations I told them to kiss my azz. Junk was in the porch and would stay there till it rotted. 30 days later they came by and picked it up. I hate Charter. Switched to Dish Network which was ok for a few years. Now we have ATT direct tv. Truth be none they all suck.

I so wish Uverse was available here! I hav had ATT DSL, local cable, Dish, DTV (current).
Using local cable for Internet only, best I can get isn't fast, only just adequate. Tv is Direct and just last week I went to cancel it as the bill has increased so damn many times (free package upgrades doncha know) that was began as a 50 promo five years ago is now costing me $239 a month!
I screamed and pitched a fit and will now be paying $120..... Notably that's because I just turned off stuff and dropped packages. It NOT because they offered me some special rate to keep me.
Oh and I'm supposed to get a Genie now.

Something interesting a tech told me several months ago.  AT&T now owns Direct TV and tech says they are really pushing customers to switch to it to free up bandwidth for some new really, really high speed internet service they will be rolling out for commercial customers.
I can personally vouch for that.  I've been out on installs where the customer is is getting Direct TV when they had Uverse a few years ago and switched due to the normal price jumps. They are telling customers that Uverse is no longer available in their area. Sometimes the customer is so upset once they find out that it is, we have to make spend about 2 hours on the phone to get them their Uverse back. Also, AT&Greed is now upping the prices on the Uverse for customers that insist on it rather than DTV. With so many people switching to live streaming, the video content is in less demand than the bandwith for internet speeds.

That some new really, really high speed internet service being rolled out is not just for commercial customers. It's called Gigapower and will have download speed up to 1gig as opposed the max attainable 75meg for some customers right now. I've been through the training on it and we're just waiting for construction to get it in place in certain areas up here. Austin,tx already has it in some areas along with select markets in other states. Fiber straight to your house. You'll be able to download a full lenth HD movie in just a few seconds. Faster than a GMR built 117  :huepfenjump3: No offense Steve  ;)

That's what they installed in my place. It's fast alright, but I don't know about GMR fast.  ;)

Without reading all the posts above, I'll share my experiences in short......I've had problems/issues with several cable and satellite companies and Comcast was, by far, the worst and Time Warner a close second.

We have had AT&T for the past year and it's, by far, the best we've ever had!  Finally!!!!  :bananarock:

I expect that before my new two year commitment to DTV is up, SOMEBODY  is going to offer a full service television subscription that is fully internet supplied.
