Was there today Alan.  They have a lot more than 4 CVOs.  They had 4 CVO Ultra Classics sitting side by side.  We also looked at two CVO Street Glides that were sitting side by side.  We weren't looking for CVOs in particular so not sure how many more they had.  :nixweiss:

But I do remember when we had to put a deposit down and wait several months for it to arrive and rarely saw another on the road.  Now we see them often.

And that's why resale values have dived along with all regular Harleys.  Flood the market with anything and resale value suffers.

Like the man said, the CVO is now sadly just another "Package". You want an Ultra, your packages now include, Ultra Classic, Ultra Limited, Ultra Low, and CVO Ultra.

You're not wrong at all.  The change from limited volume and exclusivity to just another option package built on the same assembly line was driven by dollars and cents.  It is much less expensive to assemble the bikes on the regular assembly line than it is to produce them with two or four person teams in a static environment (no moving assembly line, few sophisticated power tools or automation, etc.).  Unfortunately moving them to the regular assembly line ruined the perceived notion of exclusivity and "custom" for most people who found out about the change.  Add to that the ever escalating prices for a product that was now just thrown together on the same line as the cheapest models, and the huge increase in the number produced, and a CVO is nothing special anymore.  Think of it like I do, an expensive option package just like the ones offered by auto makers on their cars and trucks.  Nothing exclusive about them, just bigger profits (add $1000 in content, raise price $5000 for instance).

If anyone wants an exclusive bike these days, they need to find a true custom bike builder and have one made just for them.  Bring a bigger checkbook of course, but at least that way you get to specify what hardware you want versus just accepting what someone in Milwaukee wants to include.

At least the autos have option package discounts listed on the window sticker. Most of the CVO's I see don't even have prices. :nervous:

I have no idea what the market is like where you live but I am an expert on the market where I live and the overall market for used Harleys is very strong here. Speaking generally, CVOs are like any high end luxury item, the initial depreciation will be deeper but it levels out and in the long run CVOs are always going to bring more $$$ and a higher % return comparatively.

Someone mentioned customs as a good investment. Yeah, not so much. You will take it in the ass if you try to resell it. Go ahead, try.

He didn't say "good investment."  He said get a custom if you want to guarantee it's one of a kind:

I think it has to do with 2 things, the mass production and "me too" crowd.
A lot of people with money want things "now" and didn't want to wait several months for a bike special ordered.  Now they don't have to.  As well as the "me too" crowd that wan'ts to be like everyone else (big wheel trend)  Actually I like the fat front tire trend, I think they look bad a$$. And not as much money with the whole front end.

was working the Va state HOG rally today at the dealership & saw at least 7 different cvo's. talked with all but one & none of them knew about this website. I've invited them all to check it out & come to the MV GTG & MITM  :2vrolijk_21:

I've seen bikes identical to mine at an armpit rest stop on the BC/AB border, another one about 50 miles away, another just like mine got traded in to my dealer this past saturday, count several like it on ebay… I swear theres fewer amber whiskey or charcoal grey bikes running around this town (haven't seen any) versus my "exclusive" CVO..

I was in Columbia TN dealer the other day, just out for a ride, and noticed they had 6 CVO's on the floor.  They are just a mid sized dealer.   Five were new models and one was a factory demo bike.  Don't recall all the models but think they were two RGU, three SG and one other think it was a Breakout.  Did not look into this enough to know if it was a sign of slow economy or their pricing.  They are close enough to Franklin and Brentwood areas with lots of residents with disposable income I suspect it may be their pricing.
