I assume when you said "they are not selling CVO colors" you were talking about Harley? No different than Ford or Chevrolet, they also don't sell paint except for touch-up. CVO colors available at PPG Paint jobber or any body shop that MIXES and sprays PPG products. Use the formula for your color and match is, so far for me, exceptional and I have done paint work on all Harleys I have owned since 2000.
Apparently HD has at times, and still does for some colors sells paint. I was talking to a local parts dept mgr @ HD dealer. He has been around for 30+ years and says this is part of HD's attempt to suck in unsuspecting people by telling them they have to buy HD paint, oil, fork fluid, brake fluid etc. and we all know this is not true.
Todays paints, whether Axalta, PPG or whatever are systems. You can not just buy a pint of paint and spray it and be done. You need correct color base or sealer, right # of coats of color with the correct thinner that is mixed Exactly as specified, the correct amount of flash time between coats, the correct tip on the hi-volume/lo-press gun and the correct clear, which may not be clear at all, some colors require tinted clear. So that is why HD does not sell CVO colors that inc Pearls, metalflake, metallic's, tinted clears etc.
But any shop that can match a GM Pearl tri-coat, Lexus metallic pearl tri-coat etc can match and spray a HD color. Nothing special just requires training.
