PAINT
« on: July 03, 2016, 09:53:52 PM »

just curious now that I own  CVO. since each year the paint changes and is different on each model CVO.   do they paint and overstock tanks, fenders, sidecovers, for that years models and set them aside for future replacement sales, or if we need a replacement skin  they just paint it on a as needed basis?
thanks

OK fellas im new to the Cvo Site.  This Saturday a acquaintance of mine decided it would be funny it give me a little bump while waiting at the light.  I currently own a 2005 Fatboy CVO  Platium mist slate.  So long story short theirs a super small dent in  the middle of the rear fender barley noticeable .  The problem is that i notice it and my bike is damn here perfect.  So a argument later and fists almost thrown im stuck with the imperfection.  I need suggestions on where to begin with fixing it or if any one has a recipe of extracting small dents with out harming the paint.

Thank you  Brandon

If you lived in Richmond VA there is a guy who fixed an area on my last bike and did an outstanding job.

It's called paintless dent removal, and you can find practitioners of the art all over the country.  Don't just pick one out of the local ads however, since like anything else these days there are unqualified people scattered amongst the good folks.  Talk to some auto body shops and insurance adjusters.

As for that "friend", perhaps you need to be a little more discriminating in your choice of friends.

Check with a new car dealer.  They use Dent Doctor people as sub contractors to fix dents in new and used cars. I am sure they will make a referral.

Good luck.

As long as the metal is not kinked or the paint cracked, it should be removable.

BUT... I had a small dent on top of my front fender and I went to several local paintless dent removers here in St. Louis area.  This was just after a big hail storm and there were many of them, usually setup in dealership parking lots.

None of them would do the front fender because it was a bike fender.  I thought it would be quite easy for them to just roll off the tire with their tools and it's done, but they refused.

I made a tool out of 1/2" round rod with a slight spoon end.  I ground it round on one side and then polished the end.  With the right bend in it and the bike on the center lift, I was able to feel on top when my tool we in the correct place.  I then just rocked the tire back and forth with the tool resting on the tire.  With about a half dozen back and forth, the dent was gone and not mark shown.

I'm not saying this could be done with your back fender dent, but it may be worth looking into if you cannot get a local paintless dent guy to help you out.

Dan,

Thank you for the advice im going to do some shopping around at some body shops and kinda see where there at with it.  I was brain storming last night of almost doing something along the same lines  like a caster wheel with a handle or something  and roll it out on the back side like i said its barley noticeable but it bothers the chit out of me. Nothing is creased nor is the paint cracked at all.  ill post a few pictures on here of the dent when i get home.  Dan i  am curious as well about the tool you made.  If at all possible can you post some pictures of it when you get a chance?

Thank you Brandon
