Flush mount fuel gauge - can't see the LED's until dark
« on: July 04, 2016, 05:55:35 PM »

I recently bought a '14 CVO RK and I can't see the LED's in the fuel gauge in the daytime. I checked the manual and made sure the LED's were set on high but I can't even see them in the daytime if I shade the gauge with my hand. Is this a common problem and is there a solution I'm missing?

mine are very difficult to see in bright sun as well.  if I need to see them, I shade them with the palm of my hand.  normally though, I just use the odometer to gauge how much fuel I have.  if i'm getting near 200 miles, then I know I need to start looking for a station.  one could also use the miles remaining feature on the odo, and/or the low fuel icon on the speedo.

Have to love those folks in Milwaukee.  Style over function, such that the function is pretty much useless unless you only ride at night.

Pretend it's still 1970 something and bikes don't have fuel gauges.  Just leave your odometer display showing miles since last fill-up so you'll have a rough estimate of how much you've used.  If the miles to empty feature is actually accurate on your bike, use that if you really have to stretch a tank.

My 12 SERG had that gage and my 13 SERK has it.  I did not know you could change the brightness of the led's.  That said I can usually see mine, some times have to shade it a lot with my hand.

Thanks All! Just wanted to make sure it wasn't just me. I do reset the trip meter when I fill up and my "miles to empty" meter does a pretty good job of letting me know when I need to be looking for gas, even though it's not even close to an accurate representation of my mileage.

The LED gas gauge is a pretty cool concept but the LED's need to be way brighter for it t be useful. It drives me nuts to have a useless gauge on a machine. If I could find a decent looking analog gas gauge that would fit in that hole I'd replace the LED one.

also, i seen a black flush gas cap/fuel gauge in the P&A catalog, not sure if it will work on our bikes tho...but if it did my thinking is it may be easier to read at a glance  :nixweiss:

Same deal here, I just leave my odo in the 'miles to empty' selection......start looking at 30

That's kind of what I do too. Start looking at 30, look a little harder at 20, tell myself I really should get gas at 10........man I hate to stop. Janet can't wait until I run out so she can give me an "I told you so". Maybe I should get me one of those gas cans that fit in the saddlebag.  ::)

On this bike, you can have the fuel gauge also show in the "main" display screen (the area that the trigger controls).  Check your owners manual and just as you adjusted LED brightness, you can choose to turn the fuel gauge ON in this main screen where you can actually see it!

I have mine set to show the fuel level on the lower portion of speedo all the time - not one of the toggle display settings. Photo attached.

Stopped by Colliers HD during their birthday bash, on the way back from Laconia. I noticed this on an identical 2013 CVO RK. Asked about it, nobody could tell me. Thought maybe it was a new replacement. I too, should've read my owners manual more thoroughly. I like this!
