Fat Tire for front?
« on: August 08, 2016, 09:53:33 AM »

Anyone tried a new fat tire kit for the front of a bagger. Seems to be a few companies out making them with 180-200 front tires. Looks pretty good to me but I'm looking for something that with help with handling. Got a 21" on mine now and like the look ok but a little testy in the twisties. Anyone got any actual experience?

Hi Lew,

I was searching this subject and found your post from last year. I don't know if you're still interested but I have two friends that have fat front tire kits and both swear the bike handles a lot better. One is a Street Glide the other is a Road Glide. I really like the look so I'm putting a 180-18 on the front of my Road King right now....well, as soon as my fender gets back from paint, which is supposed to be Wednesday. If you're still interested I'll let you know my impressions after I get some riding time.

Hey Joe missed you at MITM, had a great time. And yes I'm very interested. Having a hard time picking a wheel because of our dual disc on our bikes. What wheel did you choose? Are you buying from Native? I heard they are doing a 20" fat tire now as well. Would you care to share you costs with me? Send me some pic when you can. by the way doesn't look like I will make the Maggie thing, got a conflict with work and I'm not sure I can work around it.

Hi Lew,

I hate that I missed the MITM. I'm in the middle of building a shop and the concrete guys decided they needed to get started the week of the GTG. I felt like I had to be home to make sure they put the slab where I wanted it.

I did buy the kit from Native Custom Baggers and I went with their "Lincoln" fender and hidden axle lowers. Got the wheels from a company in Hendersonville, TN, just north of Nashville, called FTD customs http://www.ftdcustoms.com . I attached a picture of the front wheel. I put a matching back wheel on but you can hardly see it with the bags on. Figured since I'm changing from the chrome Agitators to contrast cut wheels the difference would be way too noticeable. Both companies were very helpful and easy to deal with. I'm supposed to get the fender back from paint this Wednesday. While I had the bike apart, I switched to Legends shocks and cartridges, and added the Yelvington reverse pulley too. As soon as I get the front fender and wheel installed I'll post a couple of pictures.

As far as costs go I think this is pretty close.

Native Custom - $1,600 - fat tire kit
FTD Custom - $3,000 - wheels, front rotors, tires
Fender painted to match - $1,000 with shipping and insurance
plus these "accessories"  ::)
Legend Suspension - $1,700
Yelvington Reverse - $1,845

Let me know if you have other questions.

Very cool brother, not sure what that pulley is all about. But I dont keep up very well. I'm not sure if I would change booth wheels either cant even see the rear and I really like the look of the single disc but not giving up on the 2 disc and the stopping power. Send me a pic or 2 when completed!

Will do!

The pulley has a planetary  gearset in it the gives you reverse. It replaces the stock rear pulley. With my short legs and bad knees I struggle to move the bike backward if I'm on the slightest incline. I doubt that's an issue for you.
