Buying CVO
« on: August 17, 2016, 07:53:37 PM »

Looking at a 2916 CVO Limited. MSRP is $39,900. On the tag is also $499 for shipping to be added to the MSRP. Dealer also want $500 for setup. I have purchased 7 HD bikes and never recall paying for setup. The dealer will sell the bike for $36,500 but also wants the $1000 for shipping and setup. Any thoughts?

No way I'd buy a '16 model year bike (probably wouldn't buy any bike) this close to the new model year being released. Whatever you buy in a week you'd be able to get it cheaper. If you have to have a bike you could probably rent one for a week and then purchase a '16 and come out ahead in $$$. JMHO.

The setup fee is just extra profit, I'm with Gary, I would wait a week....or more.

I got offered 37,500 OTD on any color 2016 Limited (Cali taxes are $3,400, approx.), so they would be selling it for $34,100 (no garbage add on fees).  I turned it down!  So you are essentially getting the same deal, assuming this OTD, but probably your taxes are much lower than in the republic of California.

Regional markets vary, but I don't see that deal as worth taking, when a new generation of motors is coming out and you're (we) are buying a one year old bike!  As stated above, wait until the new bikes come out, would be your best bet.

Gary's got it right.  Probably save yourself $2,000 on that '16 just waiting a few more days if that's what you end up still wanting.

But as long as Gary has had his bike, insofar as he was talking about himself, he should've just stopped here ...  :P

No way I'd buy a '16 model year bike (probably wouldn't buy any bike).

No way. Dealer cost is around 32k as mentioned in your other thread. Setup or PDI of $500 is bullchit. Attaching the tourpack and windshield along with checking fluids? Not for $500. He's a greedy bastard. Please do yourself a favor and wait one more week. Go rent a bike if you need to ride that bad, lol. I'd like to see what trade value is on a '16 in about two weeks. Two years ago I locked in a trade price on my '11 SERGU I had. The next week when the '15 SERGU was announced, the trade value dropped $700 (which I did not lose due to the deal before the new models) because they brought the model back which decreased demand on the '11. Hell, some dealers have leftover '15s sitting around. Also consider doing a fly and buy. Cowboy HD in TX made great deals  for two of my buddies last year when we were coming home from a big GTG on new '15 SERGUs. Basically about 4k less than msrp OUT THE DOOR along with one guy getting his '08 shipped home.

With the "Twinky Motors" becoming obsolete in a few days, the used market is going to get hammered.

I agree with waiting at least 30 days to see how things shake out.

Jonga and I both got awsome deals in 2010 at Redding Harley Davidson in Redding, Cal.  Four or five other dealerships closer (Redding is 100 miles from Sacramento) but Redding was the best deal.  Quite a difference in all those dealerships within 100 miles, back then.

The new motor is out soon however, any time the MoCo has released something new the first year hasn't been without it's issues.  I'd suggest waiting a couple of weeks after the new release.....all the dealerships will start dropping prices within a few weeks and that's when you'll get a great deal.

And, the fly and buy is a great excuse for a road trip......especially after not being able to ride for a few weeks.  :2vrolijk_21:

Call Mountain State Harley Davidson in Delbarton WV and talk to Stephanie. If they have what you want available, I am sure that the price wont be an issue....

Not sure anybody is suggesting wait until the 2017s are out so that you can get one of them.  I believe they're suggesting that you wait to see the price drop on the 2016 models.   We all know the first year release from the MoCo is not without a whole new set of problems.  JMHHO   :nixweiss:
