From 2 to 3
« on: February 02, 2017, 08:24:55 AM »

Good morning guys,

Been debating for a few years on going to a Tri Glide, one for Terri's comfort and two for me as well.  Last week I rode one for a while and liked it.  Long story short sold my CVO and bought a 2012 Big Blue Pearl Tri Glide.  HAve only run about 125 miles on it yesterday but Terri loved the ride no pain what so ever.

Heading to Orlando Saturday to meet Paul from the Fairing Xchange and swap out the black inner fairing for a painted one and the same with the heat shields.  If this works out I will buy a softail or dyna for my 2 wheel rides alone.  Going to add Ape hangers to this one probably Khrome Werks 2+2 Sweepers any thoughts?  Added parts from previous bikes for now until I decide to go chrome on the thing or black it out.  Oh by the way reflectors on rear fenders are now gone too.

Ride Safe

Last summer rode the Blue Ridge with a guy on one. After a day of sharp turns he wanted to sell it.

If you don't have good upper body strength it could be an issue to some. Me I find it's easy to steer.  Curves take some getting used to and some roads like the Dragon will surely give you a workout. Time will tell if it becomes an issue I will deal with it when it happens.  Hopefully I won't have to make that decision anytime soon.

Think of it as a Harley SnowRider! Now you can go riding up north for the winters.

Well Jim, I've been waiting for your official announcement.  :huepfenjump3:
one question, do it fit on your trailer? Not that you would ever have a reason to trailer it.  :D

Been wrestling with opening my big mouth but figured better to do it and man up. Don't own a trailer to put a bike on or in.  Found I never used them so I sold them all.  Bushtec is next. Not going to go through painting this one to match. If I need one I will find a Big BLue Pearl one, I know a guy that is pretty good at locating them.

First thought......I wonder if he's already put a Bushtec hitch on it?    :huepfenlol2:

How else you gonna have an excuse for going for a ride to drag home another flip Bushtec?  :nixweiss:

JC Kept the wire harness and part of the hitch. Looking for a used bumper so I can powder coat it black and add the hitch. One always must be ready for a deal. Lol

That's a good looking trike, Jim.  Going from 2 to 3 is probably something most of us think about and wonder if we will end up needing to do it.
I'd defend anybody's right to do it, but I'm thinking I would miss carving turns and leaning too much to go with a trike.
My guess is we'll opt for a little coupe, maybe a convertible?, and then hook up my repainted Bushtec behind it!
Now, which convertible should I get?
Oh, that's right!  I already have one!
Nice ride, Jim!   :2vrolijk_21:

Harry, I always liked the looks of the trikes but did not want to give up the freedom of two wheels.  However when Terri couldn't ride with me it sucked and I wasn't really happy riding everywhere by myself.  When we moved to Florida and she started riding again I felt it necessary to ensure she was as comfortable as she could be and I could make sure she could ride with me all the time.  50 years ago I was in a bad motorcycle wreck.  My right thigh was pretty much opened up like gutting a deer.  Got 330 plus stitches to put everything back in and close the wound.  Back then if you missed a lot of work you got fired.  The company I worked for gave me 5 working days to come back or lose my job.  well I went back.  Have not had any issues  at all until I passed the age of 65 and now the leg cramps really bad at times in the area of the wound.  Tried exercises and everything not much works. So I finally decide since I need my right leg when I stop and I really didn't want to hurt my wife or myself we would try the trike.   Hence buying a 2012 with 16,000 miles instead of new one. After we get a bunch of miles on this one and we still like it then we will look at one with the 107 motor.

Seriously considered going back to a street rod or a Shelby Cobra but when I had those types of vehicles I never left them sit unguarded so to me that wasn't going to work.  Time will tell if the newness wears off, if it does then down the road she goes to a new home.  In the meantime we are having a ball running around Florida.  Probably going to sell the Bushtec for now not in the mood to paint another.

Jim,
There is an elegance to the prettier trikes, that is undeniable.  I understand about making Terri comfy.  That's why we have a big tourer, and I'm guessing it was the same for you.
You are to be commended for going back to work so soon.  Today, most young folks might think about disability.  My bike accident was 6+ years ago, and I'll never be the same from it, but I didn't get all the stitches you took.  Much of mine was cosmetic and stitching up my face and shoulder where the collar bone was mended.  It still aches and always will, I suppose.
If I could offer any advice, it would be to keep the Bushtec, just in case.  I did after the accident (as we weren't pulling it at the time), and kept it for that "rainy day".  It turns out that the cobalt blue of the '07 EG Ultra Classic was darn close to the sapphire blue of my '15 RGU.  Got lucky, I guess, as I didn't expect it to match so closely.
And you know what?  Who cares if it matches?  Use it for a while to see 1) if you still need it, and 2) if you'll keep the trike.  If not, either way you still have the Bushtec, and there's no telling how handy it may come in one day!

Jim

How can I argue with a blue bike?
Looks great.
Nancy and I manage the Demo Days at the Harley shop and I have always taken the trike riders out for Demo's.
Over the past 5 to 6 years I have put many miles on a trike.
For me it's an acquired taste but I have fun riding them.
Some day I hope Harley will give them some lean.
Hopefully soon, but then again I'm holding out for a reverse in a SEUC first.
Good luck my friend. Knowing you, I'm sure you are into it at a decent deal so if you grow tired it's not a big loss.
