Harry, I always liked the looks of the trikes but did not want to give up the freedom of two wheels. However when Terri couldn't ride with me it sucked and I wasn't really happy riding everywhere by myself. When we moved to Florida and she started riding again I felt it necessary to ensure she was as comfortable as she could be and I could make sure she could ride with me all the time. 50 years ago I was in a bad motorcycle wreck. My right thigh was pretty much opened up like gutting a deer. Got 330 plus stitches to put everything back in and close the wound. Back then if you missed a lot of work you got fired. The company I worked for gave me 5 working days to come back or lose my job. well I went back. Have not had any issues at all until I passed the age of 65 and now the leg cramps really bad at times in the area of the wound. Tried exercises and everything not much works. So I finally decide since I need my right leg when I stop and I really didn't want to hurt my wife or myself we would try the trike. Hence buying a 2012 with 16,000 miles instead of new one. After we get a bunch of miles on this one and we still like it then we will look at one with the 107 motor.
Seriously considered going back to a street rod or a Shelby Cobra but when I had those types of vehicles I never left them sit unguarded so to me that wasn't going to work. Time will tell if the newness wears off, if it does then down the road she goes to a new home. In the meantime we are having a ball running around Florida. Probably going to sell the Bushtec for now not in the mood to paint another.
Ride Safe
Jim,
There is an elegance to the prettier trikes, that is undeniable. I understand about making Terri comfy. That's why we have a big tourer, and I'm guessing it was the same for you.
You are to be commended for going back to work so soon. Today, most young folks might think about disability. My bike accident was 6+ years ago, and I'll never be the same from it, but I didn't get all the stitches you took. Much of mine was cosmetic and stitching up my face and shoulder where the collar bone was mended. It still aches and always will, I suppose.
If I could offer any advice, it would be to keep the Bushtec, just in case. I did after the accident (as we weren't pulling it at the time), and kept it for that "rainy day". It turns out that the cobalt blue of the '07 EG Ultra Classic was darn close to the sapphire blue of my '15 RGU. Got lucky, I guess, as I didn't expect it to match so closely.
And you know what? Who cares if it matches? Use it for a while to see 1) if you still need it, and 2) if you'll keep the trike. If not, either way you still have the Bushtec, and there's no telling how handy it may come in one day!
