This place was filled with items of interest to view and ponder upon but I was hungry and raced down the hallway to eat!

Holy Fish!  That was one large fish sandwich!  Homemade onion rings too!

One of Duluth’s landmarks is the Aerial Lift Bridge.  The bridge was built in 1905 as the first transporter bridge however converted to a vertical lift bridge in 1929.

Boats of all types enter the canal causing the bridge to go up and down.

The bridge can be reaised to its full height of 135ft in about a minute and lifted ~ 5,000 per year.  During my time on the Lakewalk, it was lifted three times.  You can walk underneath the bridge up or down and fun to watch under the platform.

The US Army Corps of Engineers maintain a nearby maritime museum here.

The Canal Park is where you will find the Downtown Lakewalk.  The walk is ~ 4 miles long and here you will find a lighthouse pier, the Aquarium, the floating ship museum and my hotel.

In the great romantic tradition of Paris, “love locks” have come to Duluth.

The padlocks, adorned with initials, hearts and other marker-drawn doodles, have mysteriously appeared on some wooden poles from an old pier along Lake Superior. People strolling down the Lakewalk in Canal Park began noticing the so-called “lock trees” recently, though it’s not known when the first lock appeared or who put it there.

Not quite the sandy beaches I have back home but it works.
