When the Seeg first caught my attention I assumed there would be a 6 speed along with all the other CVO add ons. My experience with my Heritage running pretty high rpms at about 80 made me think that the Seeg would really benefit from a 6 speed. My feelings now that I ride one are that we are sacrificing some low end power to run less rpms at cruising speeds, the old trade off. This is accomplished by running a (fairly high) 3.15 final drive ratio. If they would have put a lower final drive ratio along with a 6 speed that would have been sweet, but they did not.
My Big Dog came with a Baker 6 speed and a similar final drive ratio to our bikes and 6th gear was useless, unless you were cruising at or above 80 mph. I hardly ever used it. When I ran it through the gears hard 5th gear was good well beyond where I wanted to go and cruising on the freeway I was always shifting back and forth between 5th and 6th. So I lowered the gear ratio and now it comes off the line like a rocket and gets into 6th at about 70-75 mph, just like it should. And the Baker transmission... awesome.
Getting more power out of our bikes is a common topic on this board so a change in gear ratios and the addition of a 6 speed tranny would be the best of two worlds for some riders. I highly recommend a Baker transmission if you do the change and if you visit their website Bert does a great job of explaining final drive ratios.
