Well, I must be doing something wrong at the HD website.  I login and the info is listed on my CUSE.  I do the service check and nothing comes up except the standard service stuff even though the dealer says that I'm in line for the new regulator.  I'd suggest contacting your dealer!

The bulletin that covers this issue outlines that a quantity of black regulators will be shipped automatically but the chrome ones must be ordered as needed.

Does anyone have an actual copy of the bulletin that they can post here?  While my VIN comes up needing this, I haven't been able to find a copy of the actual bulletin.  Thanks

I don’t have a copy. As I recall, the bulletin doesn’t cover specific failure issues; is uses broad language like “potential problem” to describe the malfunction. The thrust of the document directs the Dealer to replace regulators with a date code falling within a specific range (reply #8).

I recall thinking that most of the folks here will need some lead time because the chrome units must be ordered as needed.

If you can get to a Dealer, I’m sure they will let you read it.

The only item I need to check is:  Recall Notice: 0900: PROD.CMP.'06 FL TOURING IGN.SW.  Suppose I'll mosey over to Columbia this weekend and gitrdun.

You should do more than mosey.(IMNSHO)...if the pin breaks, you can't turn the ignition switch on or off... :nixweiss:

Big Al is right; it appears that the failure is most likely to occur when an attempt is made to turn the handlebars while the fork is locked. The malfunction will leave you with a locked fork that cannot be corrected without disassembly and removal of the ignition switch assembly; basically time for a Tow Truck. Boy that would wipe the smile off a person’s face in a hurry!

Just got around to checking mine. Built Feb 06.  Shows two recalls.

1.   0900:  Prod.CMP. '06 FL Touring Ign.Sw

2.   0902:  2006 Touring Regulator

I remember the Ign Switch recall coming in the mail, but mine worked fine and I didn't really want to mess with it at the time, then I forgot about it. Guess I could do both.

Like TC says above, you come out after paying for gas in the middle of no place or stopping for a burger and RUH ROH, you can't turn the ignition or handle bars it's after 6 pm on Saturday, your screwed.

Might be a long shot, but they don't have recalls because they are being nice, they have them because the FEDS told them to.

I had the master breaker recall on my 2001 Ultra lay down on me that way, fortunately it started after a cool down period.  The recall had been out for a couple of years and I took the casual approach to it, not again though, it wasn't any fun just sittin' on the side of the road.

There is a difference between a "Product Program" and the "Safety Recall". The Product Programs are not regulated by the Government and they can EXPIRE! I read that the 0902, regulator Product Program expires at the end of the 2 year warranty, or 1 year from the date that the program was announced, whichever come first. It is my sense that expiration terms may be Program specific.

Safety Recalls are regulated by the Government and do not expire.

0900 Fork Lock and 0902 Regulator are Product Programs. The ignition Switch Recall was a Safety Recall.

I realize that these things are a pain in the a$$, but it might be beneficial to make them a priority.

djkak,

Good point, while some of these are "service actions", "product programs" or whatever they wish to call them.  The bottom line with all manufacturers is to avoid the "mandatory" recall action of the FEDS.

While it is the good corporate decision in the case of the more "safety related" actions to get them out to us ASAP, this is often followed by a recall when there is a low response or the FEDS decide it is too important to let slide.

I totally agree with you that we should do our part to get our bikes upgraded to the new part, hell it's free......hopefully we all have found dealers we trust enough to not have more problems when the bike comes back than we had going in.  Especially since in most cases with these two items we don't have a noticeable issue going in.

Also, why pass along a problem to a subsequent owner when you sell your bike that could have been resolved while we had it under warranty or during the grace period.

OK, I can take a hint.   ;D

I believe that “Product Program” is the term that H-D uses for Customer service issues like this which do not meet the Safety Recall criteria.

It is my sense that many of us regard the Product Programs to be the same as Safety Recalls and tend to put them on the back burner. In ’78, I bought a new Anniversary Bagger that I still have. Sometime around 1979 the front fender braces were recalled; I’m sure that I’ll eventually get around to taking care of that.

From my perspective, the issue is one of expectations. If a person expects that the problem is going to be taken care of at their leisure and it is not, substantial heartburn may result. The “Product Program” key phrase or in the case of reply #36, “Prod.CMP” tells the Customer that they may have to assume additional responsibilities in order to qualify for a no charge repair.

djkak, I hear you.

I had that same recall on a FLH that I bought new in 76.  Wish I still had that one.

Got a recall letter in the mail today from the MOCO. It states specifically that it is not a safety recall but rather "in the interest of customer satisfaction." The recall covers touring bikes built between 11/08/05 and 03/28/06. Offer expires at the end of the 2-year warranty period or one year from the date of the program announcement which is March 13, 2007. Parts availability at the dealerrships began March 19th.
