Which Engine Guard Highway Peg Mounts?
« on: March 18, 2007, 07:23:10 PM »

Hey Gang, I'm relocating my passenger pegs to use for Engine Guard Highway Pegs, For mounting, I was looking at:

50830-07 Adjustable Highway Peg Mounting Kit- Angled-Short   http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448764516&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302290695&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302290695&bmUID=1174260120459&bmLocale=en_US

Has anyone ever used this type before? With only a 32" inseam, the regular Engine Guard Clamps aways left the Highway Pegs a little too far away. I don't need them back too much, but just behind the Engine Guards is still a little too far.  I thought these would take care of that. Any other recommendations. I want to make sure that they can be installed, so that when folded up, they are completely within the Engine Guard. Thanks!

Howie, I got the long adjustable angle, I set them low and back that set my highway pegs just a few inches from my floorboards, I found with the short ones I was streached out to far causing my back to hurt, hold on a min and I will get you a pic. Randy

Thanks Randy. Do you have a pic of the front showing them mounted? The picture in the catalog sucks. You can't get a feel for how it actually mounts. They don't show the length of the Long or Short Mounts either. How tall are you? I'm 5-9, 32" inseam. I've always had those cheapo clamps and the pegs were on the Engine Guards. It was always too far! I'm finally trying to get them in the right place for a change, but keep them behind the Engine Guards when folded. Hoist!! 8)

yea, I did own a 05 ultra and I bought the short ones, and had them mounted higher on the engine guard. hurt my back after a long ride. hell rode to Stugis and couldn't even use the dam things found if I just put my heel on the front edge of the floor boards I vcould ride all day without the back pain. then when I bought this bike went with the long ones and it fixed the back problem. I think you can see how they set while riding in the post I posted yesturday that says this ones for you Howie!!!! see it is!!!!! lol

I too have never used the enging guard pegs guards for any length due to them not being comfortable. This may be the solution.

Thanks guys,

now, I can rest my heel on the front of the boards and my toe on the highway pegs, or if I want to stretch out a little farther I can just use the highway pegs!!!!! works great!!

Howie, I would suggest that you go with the longer ones, the 50829-07, as I think they will be a better fit. They can be installed so that when folded up that are within the engine guard.  Mine stick out just a little bit but that was more comfortable for me. jmho. good luck, jj

Howie,

I had a set of the short offset pegs for my Heritage.  I'm 5'11" and have an inseam just shy of 32".  They worked great on the Heritage with the stock seat, but when I put on the Corbin, it moved me a tad closer and they did not really fit.  I sold them on Ebay and got a more traditional ( and less expensive set).  I really liked them, but you may need to measure to see how far back you want your foot to rest.  I originally bought the longer ones and had to take them back, as they moved the pegs way too far backward.

I'll see if I can find a pick of what I eventually purchased.

Thanks guys. I better go look at of them first, I think. TC seems to like to extend his legs low, at floorboard level. I'm used to extending the higher, about midway up the Engine Guard. I was just trying to pull them back a few inched at the same height. I better see how they fit me first. Any other types out there to see these days? Hoist! 8)

Howie, I've got not idea what you'll end up going with.  But FWIW I had an old set of short ones from someone else's project and tinkered with those a bit on the red bike before buying the Kuryakyn version of the extended brackets (Kury #4526).  Mounted the brackets a bit higher, swung the arm down lower, angled it back toward me, tinkered with it a few times to find the happy place, and it's perfect.  Used pegs with stirrups on them that can fold up or swing down.  End up with three completely different resting positions out of it set up this way.  I'm only a 30" inseam though.  So I used the longer arm to bring it as close to me as I needed it to be.

Howie,
I use these - Kuryakyn Longhorn Offset Dually ISO Pegs - 4575. You can see them in this thread - Fired00d's Digital Camera. I have them set for someone w/longer legs, but you can turn the mounts around that are on the highway bars and they will be closer.
