258 is the highest I've seen, but that was riding and stopping for every light. I can't imagine what will happen if I ever really get stuck in a jam. Maybe its time to start practicing lane splitting.

I had the 88tc dyna out for a beat run this weekend, as my side cover for the serk is at the painters.
Rode it hard, temps at the rear left side were 310.  The bike is rinehart 2-1, big sukka and flashed ecm.  It ran strong.  It is the lil woman's and she hasn't been riding lately.

Lane splitting happens all the time here in the UK.  Is it allowed in the US as I don't recall ever seeing you guys do it. :nixweiss:

They do it all the time in California, I was in Rancho Cordova about a month ago and a girl in a crotch rocket was going about 20 mph betweek the cars and clipped my mirror. Just nicked it, didn't even slow her down, there was a light black rubber streak on the edge of the mirror housing.

It's only legal in a few states, and "tolerated" in others.  If you try it in Alabama, you'd better be ready for some problems with cage drivers...they don't like it and will intentionally make your life unpleasant if they get the opportunity.  And if "the man" sees you doing it, you'll at least get a ticket if he can catch you.

Haven't lived there since '93, but when I did live in Virginia it was even illegal for two motorcycles to ride side by side in the same lane, much less lane splitting.  In my humble (OK, my not so humble) opinion, lane splitting is just asking for some major pain and is not the brightest thing to do.  No matter what your skill level may be, you still have to depend on the skills and attention of the other people.  With all the folks I see every day constantly on their cell phones while wandering all over the road, I wouldn't feel confident enough to lane split even at 2 mph.  And with some of the total jerks riding around, if you try to split and get ahead of them you may find a door opened in your path.  Not worth it.

I'm with you, Jerry...all I can picture in my mind is somebody opening their car door to spit/puke, and making my day very, very bad. :o  Wouldn't be real good for them either.  I've gone up the shoulder a couple of times when I absolutely had to, but even that made more nervous than a whore in church...

I haven't yanked them to check yet. I will when I get a chance.

If they're black and the cyl. head is already that hot, I'd be freakin scared to lean it anymore fearing nukuler melt down.
Right now, I think my mileage suks. Will fill up today and check. I've got the Don here, so we'll put our collective noggins together and come up with a guess of what to do.

I can add to that fear.
I have a complete stock CUSE2. The AFR has to be around the 2007 EPA Emission Specs. The following numbers are from yesterday's run. The IR was a Raytek Minitemp.
The degree are in F.  The plugs are 6R12's  with Syn3 Oil .
Front and Rear Temps measured at  sparkplug base. Oil temp measured with digital stick. Ambient air measured with Raytek(some shaded area nearby).
Front Cyl   Rear Cyl  Oil temp  Ambient air
291           343         220        85
267           322         216        96 (After 10 minutes engine off)
320           392         256        94 (After Immediate shut off)
307           388         243        84
FYI

Nice data set, thanks, I'll post some more soon...I have typically seen the 380 rear metal temp number in heavy stop and go.  The bike is a serk, 2-1 rinehart, sert...afr aroung 13.7ish.

We have also been testing head temps and what is listed is in the same ranges that we have seen. Now our ported heads will run in the 200-230 range. We have not set compression as low as stock . The lowest we have run on a test is 9.8 up to 11.2 with out any real changes in temps. The head once correctly ported will run much cooler.

The high temps are one way for HD to burn more of the unburnt gases to keep with EPA standards.

Thanks GMR....Yup it is like sitting on a pizza oven, it runs around 230 or so when moving, allbeit it is hard to get the IR device down there to be accurate and drive at the same time. I have it fattened up on fuel too but it still has the HD synlube in it, I'll be changing it out in another coupla hunnert more miles.

When it grenades, I'll step up for port flowed heads n cams, crank bearing, you know the whole nine yards...Where are you at?
