Need help picking out my mustang seat
« on: March 26, 2007, 12:24:07 PM »

I am going to change my seat on my 04 FLHTCSE.  Would like to hear from those that have had either the Mustang 75486 Full Seat with the split so I can have my back rest or the Daytriper 76352.

My concern is the change of seat height (I am 5'8") with the full mustang/change look of the bike.  I do know that the stock seat is just bad for me after 80 miles and has to go.  Just looking for pros and cons from those that have made the change.

I had a mustang and hated it, too damn hard. I got it from JR, who I think felt the same way. Funny thing is, the seat my wife and I liek the best is the HD comfort stitch. Lots of padding, gives me some back support, I can still use my backrest. And I got it on ebay like new for 150. Just my 2 cents.

I have owned three Mustang seats  including the one I currently have on my Flhrsei2 . It is the dual touring model smooth and without studs.  We have loved it from day one.  We thought the Corbin was too hard which mimicked the comments made by others.  The passenger pillion  is much wider than stock and a bit deeper.  The driver's seat brings you forward a little and perhaps a 1/2 inch higher.  I use my OEM rider backrest on this model without any fitment issues.  Corbin has many loyal followers, due in part to a better looking product and comfort once the seat is broken in.  We didn't want to
go thru a 1k mile + break in so we chose the Mustang.

With the HD comfort stitch, any changes required for the chopped tour pack or passenger back rest to fit properly?  Does your stock backrest ride low?  Thanks.

No changes, and I have both tour packs, King and Chopped, the rider backrest sinks in about an inch or so more than the stock seat, but it works fine. I'm very happy with the comfort stitch. That Mustang was hard as a rock, and I had it on for 5000 miles, it never softened up! Try the comfort stitch, I think you'll be surprised.

Many thanks Mike, I'm gonna give it a try.  Most important, the wife needs to be comfy, this seems to fit the bill in reading previous posts.

I am a bit surprised by Cvowner's comments about a hard Mustang seat.  That is THE number one complaint of those selling their Corbin's on Ebay.  When you call Corbin they warn you it takes a couple thousand miles for the seat to conform to your butt.   I have never heard that same comment made about a Mustang seat until now.  The standing joke at my house was, Wife speaking, " I will go anywhere you want on the bike so long as we can get their within 20 minutes."  That was before we got rid of the stock heritage seat and got the Mustang dual touring with studs.  When the road king came along she never even got to sit on it before I had the Mustang installed.  Same for the 3 roadglides I have owned.    We routinely have 300-400 mile days without any back side discomfort and it has been that way starting with the first mile traveled on a brand new seat.  You should also look at Saddleman as they too are very comfortable and in my opinion better looking than the Mustang.

I already have one of those.  Why do you think I want to make her comfortable?  ;D  Well, shes older now like me but is still a good looking blonde, still hanging out with an ugly boy like me.

You wont be disappointed by the comfort stitch, many people have said what Iroar just did, mustang is a good seat, they are hard to start and soften as you ride, BULLCHIT! At least the one I had anyway. On top of that, when I was in Sturgis and was looking at a pro pad so we could get her home, the guy told me they put gel inserts in hundreds of high dollar seats because the people say they are too hard, anyway, my wife hated it, I got the comfort stitch  and she loves it, as a matter of fact, that was her remark when I wanted her to come for a ride, how long do I have to be on that damn seat? And this is from a woman who loves to ride. Now theres no reason for her not to come along. Buy the comfort stitch, you wont be sorry, you dont have to spend 500+ for a corbin or a Saddlemen, the comfort stitch is all the seat you'll need. Remember, if momma aint happy, aint nobody happy!

OK...my Mustang dual is great for comfort...but it's weird...I am liking my stock seat more and more.  Maybe if I could find a long-distance seat that doesn't push me forward like the Mustang...

So.  how is the Comfort Stitch for positioning?  I am 6'3 and don't really need less room.

It seems to be the same as the stock seat, maybe forward a little, I really didnt see a difference except my riders backrest sinks in more than stock. It might make you a little taller than stock, my feet are still flat on the ground and I dont feel taller in the saddle.

I guess everybody has their preference.

I had a Comfort Stitch seat on my 02 Ultra Classic and so I put one on my 04 SEEG when I got it.  The stock SEEG seat was very hard but it didn't bother me like the Comfort Stitch however, my wife didn't like it.  I contacted Corbin and they wanted to borrow my bike for a week to make a seat pan for the SEEG upon which they'd give me the seat of my choice.

I did that and got the dual tourer with seat heaters and a blue flame stitch pattern (to match the blue flames on my bike).  Got the seat and I loved it.  While the Comfort Stitch is comfortable for the first couple of hours, eventually we'd both end up with the burning in the butt, tailbone issues (no support under all that cush), etc.  So I liked the Corbin.......while being the hardest seat I've ever set on (I have five different seats hanging in my garage), the wife (ex-wife now) wouldn't ride a hundred miles on it.

Another member of this site, Van, ordered a Corbin dual tour but didn't like it because it moved him back too far from the bars.  I'm 6'4" and so he offered it to me to "try out".  I did try it.......on our ocean to ocean ride last June.  I rode all the way across this country before I realized that my butt never became an issue for me.......no burning, no tail bone ache, nothing at all...........just mile after mile after mile of comfortable riding.

Don't ask me to explain how such a hard seat can be so comfortable because I don't know........what I do know is that all my issues went away.  My girlfriend loves it, too.  The Corbin hasn't came off of my bike and I haven't looked back since.  I did sell my Comfort Stitch seat to a member of this site and I hope that he is happier with it then I was.

Well I guess it goes to say to each his own! We love  the comfort stitch and can ride it for days. Go figure. I cant start and finish my day on a two by four!  :coolblue:
