MP3 Install
« on: November 10, 2004, 10:27:32 PM »

Wired my MP3 player tonight. The cord sticks out a little too much for my taste but I had to wire it somehow. Also, I think the fairing pouch might take a little away from the painted inner fairing but what is a man supposed to do? What do you guys think? Thanks.

Looks pretty good, I thought about the pouches on the windscreen of mine as well.
How did you get the cable through the fairing? Did you drill a hole for it [smiley=nervous.gif]?

Lameduck,

I have an iPod I use when on my Road Glide, have used the FM Modulator tuned to FM 87.7 or whatever FM Station as lowest signal.

I have switched over to a 3.5mm Patch Cord, the plugs into the Headset Speaker and the other end into the Aux Port on teh AM/FM/CD Player. A previous post suggested going with this Patch Cord as it would be Hi Fi rather than Lo Fi with the FM Modulator.

The bonus is you can use the Volume Control.

This Patch Cord is available at Radio Shack and probably any Best Buy etc.

Geezer.....could you give us some info on where you bought the Patch Cord.  I may be overlooking it, but can't find it at the Apple Store website.  Thanks

I didn't drill a hole. The cord runs between the lower part and upper part of the inner fairing. It was quite easy. Only about 15 minutes of work.

I have never had luck with any wireless systems. Besides, I don't know if they make one for my Creative Labs player.

I did pretty much the same, using a different pouch for my satellite radio/ipod. I used an FM modulator that mounted under the fairing that connects between my antenna lead and the factory radio. When it senses an input from the satellite receiver, or ipod, whichever I decide to use it actually disconnects the antenna from the radio so there is no interference on the frequency that the modulator is transmitting on. I ran the audio cable, satellite antenna lead, and power cable for the ipod/satellite receiver from the fm modulator up between the outer and inner fairing under the pouch and up through a small hole I made in the bottom of the pouch. It seems to work real well and the satellite antenna is mounted under the outer fairing on top of the factory radio. As you can see it even picks up in my garage.

Looks great RRSteve. Not being electronically advanced, I had to take the caveman approach and just connect the wire.  [smiley=laugh.gif]
