Since the new RF Stage II system is a 3 way speaker system that is 2 ohm as is the Boom! Stage II, I wonder if the speakers will be interchangeable. It could be an easy upgrade.

If anyone has any info. or gets a chance to here the 2 side by side please share your thoughts.

Not sure system is "new", maybe just 3 way? I have Road Glide and added their speakers to front fairing. They have tweeter pod just like Boom! audio does. Sound is much better and best part is...2 years with them and no blown speakers, unlike Boom! where I blew two speakers in 2 years. That alone should be a big selling point.

I raised a question with RF guys a few days ago, just before HD announced that they were going to include the RF speakers / amp in the CVOs.

This was my question:

Good day, I see that you have a 2014+ H-D CVO Street Glide Stage-3 kit to upgrade the speakers and amp on the 2014+ CVO Steet Glides.  I have a few questions.
Can I just install the six Rockford Fosgate (RF) speakers and grills into my bike without installing the RF upgraded amp?
I am content with the HD amp on the BoomBoxGTS on my CVO
I believe the speaker rating for the HD amp is 2 ohms so is that an issue with your RF speakers.
Is its possible to fit RF speakers to my CVO by only changing out with the HD speakers?
Finally what are the part numbers of the RF speakers and RF speaker grills please?
Would I need any cable converters to do what I am proposing.
Thanks a lot.
Oh I am in the UK by the way.

The answer from RF:
Thanks for contacting us.  Unfortunately the Harley speakers we offer are not compatible with the BOOM 2 system installed on the CVO.  You would need to uninstall all the factory speakers and amp(s) and do our kit with the a new amplifier.  Also, before you do that make sure there is somebody that has the correct techno research flash tool.  If you can't the radio flashed for Rockford then don't buy that kit.  You can contact our UK distributor to see if anybody has the flash tool.

I always knew their CVO system was slightly different than Non CVO, I used to remember the nuances, but forgot as I left the CVO and went with a Special.

Now H-D parts and accessories catalog offers the Rockford Fosgate Amp and speakers.  Its not cheep to change to RF, for the CVO Road glide the whole kit is 1507.70.

I do not believe it could possibly sound 1500 plus dollars better.

I only want to put higher quality speakers (6 in all) in my Street Glide without changing / cutting / replacing any part of the bike. Speakers that plug and play with the Harley speaker terminals and mounting hardware. I am content with the Harley amp in the batwing and the two in the rear boxes.  Trouble is in England the market place is nothing like as good as in the States i.e. the speaker choice for bikes is very poor. For cars there's no issue, but for bikes its a very new thing to non existant.

So is it possible to "mix & match" with Boom and RF systems?

I have a 2019 CVO Limited with Stage 1 Boom - standard fitment on this model bike. My question is can add a pair of Rockford Fosgate Lower Fairing speakers and amplifier or do you have to replace the whole system

I just spoke with Harley - the new 2021 RockFord speakers and amps are NOT compatible with the CVO or other Harley Boom II systems - you can't even do a speaker swap !!!!   Maddening

The description on the HD website says they do fit CVO's but it doesn't make it clear that you need to remove the Boom system first which seems to be the case. Do the RF amps work like the Boom system - i.e. one amp for 4 speakers with Boom 1 and one amp for 2 speakers with Boom 2. In the boom system there is only one amp listed. I see in the RF amps there are 2 different parts numbers for Primary and secondary amp

Hi Steve, I am down Portsmouth way.  When I entered my bike details (2019 FLHXSE) into the USA Harley parts site regading the new RF system, the site states not compatable with CVO's. I am waiting for Guildford H-D to reopen (whenever that will be) so I can discuss with the parts guys whats going on with this RF system. Its so new that I think not many as yet fully understand the systems.

Hi Pete

Found this while doing a bit of "digging" on the internet.  Seems the 2 systems are totally incompatible.  >:(So if you have a standard bike you can easily add the RF stuff. If you got a CVO you can do the same but only after removing all the stock Boom items. The RF system only needs a max of 2 amps - one in each pannier from what I can see, there is no amp for the fairing?

I was told that you need to remove any boom parts, i.e. amp and speakers for the RF systems. It does look like CVO's are compatible, however along with everything else harley, you need a harness. Part #76001100 Harley-Davidson Audio powered by Rockford Fosgate - CVO Model Wire Harness. Fits '14-21 FLHTKSE and '15-16 FLTRUSE models. Does not fit with Fairing Lower Speaker on '14-'16 FLHTKSE.

Along with the amp, speakers and CVO model wire harness, you also need a TP installation kit and an amp installation kit, to the tune of 1,599.70 +tax. I was starting to look at J&M and Soundz to upgrade mine, but I think I want to hear this system sounds and may end up going to it on my ride. I saw in the press release that you don't need to flash the system to add the RF's, just download their app and configure it yourself.  Save on installation and programming fees.  :2vrolijk_21:

Will do. My local HD is putting a system in a scoot today and should be ready tomorrow morning.  I am going to drive by and take a listen. Since it'll be a new bike, not sure if they'd let me test ride to hear at hwy speeds, since I am truthfully not looking to buy a new scoot.

Well the stealership hasn't finished the build yet.  It's their first and they're just installing it on a show room SG. The tech got put on dyno this morning and had been with that all day.

However, they did get the bike apart, removed the old audio and have installed the amp. The amp is installed in the saddlebag on the left for one, both for two. I told them to give me a shout when they got it done as I think others, including the parts manager want to know what it sounds like. I can foresee this taking 5-10 hrs for HD to get the system installed and take your hard earned cash.

IMO, unless it sounds way awesome, it'll be a hard pass for me.  The amps in the saddlebags are just attached via 3 strips of 3M double sided tape. I am not sure how that will hold long term with the heat from the amp and for those of us in hotter climates during the summer.  They do have to drill two holes in the saddlebags to make the connections and make it water tight. The wire harness is attached via molex connectors to the saddlebag connections and then run up the bike to the battery and the fairing to the front speakers. I forgot to get a picture of that when we pulled the saddlebag off, but here are two angles/views of the amp in the saddlebag. It looks like only about 14.5" of clearance to fit stuff in straight up and down, i.e. laptop. I don't want to give up the saddlebag space. By the way the parts manager was talking, it's "supposed" to sound awesome at highway speeds and not dumbed down with the separate bin file like the Boom! audio stuff was. We'll see.

I hope this helps anyone if you'e on the fence.
