The problem with the current Vrod platform is that it is not really big enough to make a two up touring bike out of it, IMO.  For somebody my size, it would work out fine, but a person over 6 feet tall begins to have issues with the riding position.  They would really need to figure out a way to stick the Revo engine in a touring model frame, or else come up with a completly new frame for the Touring Vrod...stretch it a bit, raise the seat height 2 or 3 inches, then it would be a better fit for the "average" rider.  The current Vrod suffers from the same poor suspension as all the other Harleys, IMO.

It is time for an SERG though, and even though they might have limited appeal to the masses, a CVO model would sell like hotcakes.  They might very well make an SESG too, but that would make three CVO "touring" bikes in the lineup....the baggers are selling the best though, so if they pay attention to the trend, it'll happen.

EPA standards are only going to get more stringent, so production big diplacement air cooled engines is not the future of HD, IMO....unless they come up with some way of keeping them cooler.

We know how well the 110's are currently.  Lean, big and hot does not make for a good combination with emissions.

Like it or not that's why Porsche had to water cool the boxer style engines it uses and in the first few years there was a lot of grumbling from purists but that has long ago gone by the way.

Once the MoCo switches it will only be a few years of more HP and cooler bikes before it goes by the way here too.

There'll always be enough air cooleds to keep the purists happy too.

Take a look at the current issue of Hot Bike Baggers , they have an article on a V-Rod RG that belongs to this guy named Brad Pitt. ..  I've seen one in the flesh, it is the future , like or not .

Ok to stir up things a bit more heres my revised prophecy:
They are going to introduce  a limited edition non CVO Ultra like they did with the vrod this year (any anniversary for the ultra, historians?) or maybe even introduce a 110 cui upgrade of some sort for the ultras.Than theres wide glide out of production next year so expect to see a wide glide CVO with apes and all  replacing the current  CVO dyna.Any one with common sense knows that there will be definetly another CVO roadking.I dont know about the springer i mean i love the bike and almost bough one but everyone here says that they are slow sellers. But if they are going to drop the whole springer thing next year, everyone will want one since the final run will be a limited CVO model and will be an extremely collectible bike.I still insist on Road glide since i agree with some that street glides are ment to be a less is more kinda approach. So this is how it will be as far as i can guess:
1-SERK       (everyone loves the king and everyone wants one anyway)
2-SEWG      (out of production will sell like hotcakes since future collectible value)
3-SPRİNGER (same reason as above)
4-SERG       (it just seems like time is right and that will be 5th year in a row with elctra glides.)
5-LTD ELECTRA (none CVO model with a 110 engine minus blings help your self with chrome from PA catalog.)
Thats what should happen if things stay the way they are suppose to be. :drink:

I agree with the size issues of the vrod.At 6.2 i am very uncomfortable on them. For a tourer the frame is too small.look at the modified ones they dont look as gigantic as tourers should be.

nicely done

That is a great job Terry and I believe it will/can be done.  They have too much money in the VRod motor not to use it more.  I still think the air cooled days are numbered because of emissions.

If you look at the fairing on the 07 SEUC, the "V" on there looks like the tassles on a Jester's Hat.

Here you go...
Terry,
To be honest with you, I don't think you're very far off as to what a V-Rod Ultra Classic will look like.  Like I said in an earlier post, I heard rumors a year or two ago that the MoCo was looking into and possibly testing an 1800cc version of the Revo motor in an Ultra-type package...you may just have hit on what they're doing.

I am so ready for a nice v-rod based touring bike. It's time. I am not sure I like the name "Jester" we have for the SEUC. If you look it up-it means
1. A type of a clown
2. a joke
3. something to make people laugh
this just reinforces some of the problems we have had with the new Harleys

ah yes, but a Jester's purpose to also make you smile...and I do, everytime I throw my leg over the saddle and get into the wind with her.
