Has anyone rode route 50 across Kansas? Planning a trip to Colorado in July, wondering if 50 would be more relaxed than interstate 70...

There is nothing special about 50 thru Kansas. 70 is your best bet to save time. It's mostly rural farmland either way.

Yes, it's more relaxed but also much slower than I-70.

If you are rushed then 70. I did 50 and liked the slower more relaxed ride.

When I crossed the Sunflower State on two wheels a couple years ago, I took U.S. 400 through Wichita, Dodge City, Garden City.  It’s still pretty desolate, but some history in Wichita & Dodge City.

Would have enjoyed it more if it would’ve been warmer (38-42) and sunny and not rain/snow mix…but it was mid-April, so you get what you get.

Have done both several times.  Starting from home 50 is closer for me so often a choice.  You'll take longer on 50 but you'll see a lot more.  70 is the standard interstate and trucks.

50 from the east coast to Kansas and west is just more state type roads.  It is from Kansas and west that it begins to open up and becomes more the "loneliest road" that the advertising makes you want it to be.

Yes, I have taken much of 50 across KS.  Got on back roads in Paducah KY and rode all the way to Saluda CO.
