KD, I've heard that too. I'm not sure these guys really have a clue, but the starter didn't fail. The broken ring gear took the starter jackshaft pinion gear out or visa-versa. The starter is is all one piece now, including the jackshaft. That's why the starter needs to be replaced too. They just seem to replace broken parts. I wouldn't exactly call these guys "Technicians". More like "parts changers". With everything banging around and hammering in these new designs, who the hell knows what's causing it. Either it's poor or improperly designed ring gears or the ACR/banging compensators would be my guess. HD realizes that the ring gear can't handle whatever is causing it, so they're redesigning it now.
Hey gg, I agree with you on the Rivera Pro Clutch. I've been running it for years on my '85 4-speed. 325% more clutch area than stock with it on the early diaphragm clutches, and it hooks up great, with good lever effort. I have it on my Pro Street too. I figured why not have it on all 3 bikes! The clutch hub/ring gear is still the problem right now though.
Hoist!
