I heard from sources that the HD/Lehman trike could be out as early as the 2008 model year, but more than likely the 2009 model year.  If he wants one now, I would recommend going to a dealership that handles Lehman conversions and buy one there.  It's basically going to be the same bike...JMHO.

The Lehman website says that they reached an 'agreement' with HD. I guess what I'm wondering is if there will be any changes? Do you think the Lehman trike will be any different other than being the current model year (2008?)? Has anyone here ever owned one? What would you recommended? Any pitfalls to avoid?

A friend of mine knees are really bad and is having trouble holding up his bike, he's looking for a trike. Below are the two he's looking at. One thing to think about is reverse, many don't have it!

Carolina HD in Gastonia had 2 on the floor a few weeks ago ,Their is a shop in Charlotte that is a Lehman dealer I think he did the 2 at CHD tel.#704 867 2855

I spoke to my stealer in the UK and he told me that this was likely to be only a USA thing. He had obviously had some discussion with someone about it so it sounds like it could be a possibility.

For what it's worth (and I'm sure I'll catch flack from some three-wheelers), I'm not a fan of trikes.  Couple of things to think about - with a trike, your front wheel is virtually guaranteed of being "stuck" in the center third of the traffic lane with all the anti-freeze, oil, and other gunk that tends to collect there and that us on two wheels usually try to avoid.  So that means you potentially run the risk of always pushing/sliding in cornering maneuvers.
Another suggestion is a sidecar.  Same steering dynamics as a trike - no countersteering.  With the hack, the the two motorcycle wheels remain in the left third of the traffic lane out of the gunk so theortically, you should have better traction.
I've ridden both.  For me, I'm a hack fan.  It also gives you the flexibility of riding a "real" motorcycle if you're so inclined.  Once a trike - always a trike.

Tony brings up some interesting points I had never considered about owning/riding a trike. I do know of someone that has one and have ridden w/them before. I observed that it appears they need a larger turning radius/room for slow speed maneuvering, also there is more steering around corners then leaning. Which makes them not as quick when riding w/two-wheelers. When the trike was riding w/me even on Interstate it seemed that I was leaving him behind on curves there, could only imagine what would happen on an aggressively curvy road.

You are right Fired00d,
I don't think most folks buy a trike or sidecar for performance. It does help those with disabilities from birth,accident or age ride though.
I have never ridden either but from what I have read each model has good points or bad (sidecar or trike) and they handle quite differently from each other and of course both differ from a two wheel in handling.
You do steer them in corners and they have points where they will want to flip or lift the sidecar.
I am sure each would benefit from a reverse gear too in parking lots.

Tony, I think you're right. I suggested the sidecar route myself. This way he could always take it off if he wanted to. d00d, not to worry, dad is not going to go fast.

I know a guy hear in VA that can ride a hack faster through sharp turns than I'd ever attempt on TWO wheels.  It's a matter of getting use to the different dynamics and besides - they really draw attention.  Think about it - a B&O Jester with a matching hack??? Love it!
