Here's all the info on the XM Weather package. I posted a bunch of screen shots awhile back, but this is where I got them from. Now, if they would put this in the Zumo, I'd have to replace my 2610.

XM Weather

:indian_chief:

It's a Hobson's Choice on these units Chuck.  If one had no interest in the Bluetooth addition nor the onboard weather displays I still thing the 26xx series is a better unit for general nav purposes and unit functionality than are the new 27xx or 28xx series.  The capabilities designed in to the newer units are nice if you want or need them though.

When my 2620 crapped out a few nights ago I was in a rush and got the replacement on the way ASAP.  It actually turned out to be a reparable problem; but I didn't know that at the time.  Without the time crunch I thought I was in at the time I'd still have stayed with the 26xx.  Having gotten a chance to play with the range of its Bluetooth functionality now though the new unit is more tempting for its extra bells and whistles; though the mapping of the 26xx still seems better.

I keep hearing that as the units mature, the dumber they get. I love the 2610, and have never had any problems with it. Since I'm not interested in Bluetooth, the only thing I've been looking/waiting for is the color radar in a road unit, not a crossover like the GPSMap variants. I'm sure it will happen someday, probably in the Zumo line as that makes the most sense. Hopefully that will be before I find myself with a dead unit needing replacement.

The 478 with the NT software has "new" clutter on the screen, as you zoom out there is an icon for every airport, from the smallest to the largest, so many that the screen is hidden by little jets
...

Porthole, does this mean that you would NOT recomend uploading the City Navigator software? I followed Gary's instructions to get a free copy which hasn't arrived yet. I sent the 478 back to Garmin for replacement of the screen and two power cords. UPS tried to deliver it today (yesterday now) but I wasn't there to sign for it. So, should I stay with the mapsource software or change it out? It may not matter if the software doesn't come in by Tuesday.

TIA, AJ

So, damn I shouldn't ask this, what's the real scoop?  Is it current?  Is it an overlay over the nav map or do you have to switch from one to the other?  What's the monthly charge for the addition?  And anything else that seems important....

2ln, bite the bullet. I love the 478. The weather feature is great but expensive. You'll see it in HS.

I don't think it has anything to do with the software. I was using an old version of City Navigator (my 276C software) for routing purposes, and it wasn't working, so tech support sent me the NT version. NT is why the routing did not work correctly.
The screen clutter has always been bad, from day one.

I just set the clutter sensitivity level to low. I didn't realize that was what you were talking about. I thought it was the new s/w interfering.

Set the detail to low, and "de-clutter" on makes no change, the little airplanes are all over.

Has anyone tried using the SanDisk 4GB Ultra II SDHC High Capacity Memory card (Costco $49 after coupon) in their Zumo 550?  After reading the fine print it states;   Compatible exclusively with digital cameras and camcorders that support Secure Digital High Capacity memory cards; Note: legacy Secure Digital devices are not compatible

I called Garmin tech support and the tech I spoke with was not aware of the newer SD HC media cards.

Thanks!

SD HC media cards.

These are mentioned frequently in the zumo forum, so perhaps they are, although, not knowing, I bought a 2GB card last week.

I just searched the Zumo forum and saw two references where they (SDHC) were being used. I think the most compatability problems have been different manufacturers and not they type/size of card. Don't know how that can make a difference but that is what I've seen mention. :confused5: Doesn't Cosco have a good return policy? If so at the price I'd try it to see if it works. :nixweiss:

It sees the card and I was able to copy files to the card.  Cant test playing the MP3's until I get the unit mounted.  Having trouble installing the POI (need to read the PDF that was posted) and creating routes.  I need to RTFM (read the X manual)!  Ride safe!

Just remember when you put the MP3's on the card to create a folder(MP3's/Music/etc) of some sort to put them in. If you try to put them all in the root directory of the card you'll get false readings that the card is full before it is.

How do you set the proximity sensor??
This was asked in another thread but I'm going to answer it here to benefit all those that may be interested.

These instructions will be in to posts so I can attach corresponding pictures w/them.

When you are ready load your POI using the POI Loader and you get to the screen that asks for the location of the files (POI's) that you want to load (see pic below) you will need to change from "Express" mode to "Manual Mode.
