Thanks mi amigo Gary..........

Jorge,

That is the same one. I think I just replaced the fuse in it with a smaller fuse instead of wiring the inline fuse from the GPS.

How do you get the Zumo 550 to repeat a voice direction???  Yes - I have read the instruction book - well sorta...

If you are following a route you can touch the "Distance to next turn" display in the lower right corner.  It will display the next turn as well as give you voice direction.  I usually use the button to preview a turn to make sure I'm in the right lane to properly execute the turn.  I assume the display works the same way up until you actually execute the turn.

Jorge,
I think this is the one that Rob is speaking of - 12VDC 7.5A Power Plug (I have this one also). You will have to cut your Zumo power cord to desired length and replace the fuse that is in the plug w/the in line fuse that is on the power cord of the Zumo. The one in this lighter is a lot higher amp then the one that is in the Zumo power cord.  With that said if I had known about the power plugs from West Marine [12V Flush Mount Receptacles & Plugs (Plug Only) Sealink 12V Receptacles, Plugs, and Both (Plug Only)] I probably would have gotten one of these instead.

Like Rob I haven't had any problems w/my Radio Shack plug and have been thru some gully washers with it, but I did add some extra protection around the end (heat shrink) to prevent water from running down the wire into the plug (see before and after).

I used the radio shack plug also. When I first hooked it up the light was green but zumo not running off bike, pulled the wires back out and back in. Ok from then on I must have pushed in past bare wire and got plastic instead. Just in case you have the same issue.

I had the same issue, and at first couldn't figure out what the problem was since the light was green. Finally did the same thing you did and it's been working fine ever since.

Jorge,
On the power cord that came w/the Zumo there is a in line fuse installed (believe it's a 3 amp fuse), and when you shorten the cord more then likely that in line fuse will be on the part that is cut off. The lighter plug has a fuse installed (7.5amp) remove the fuse from the lighter plug, remove the fuse from the Zumo power cord and install it in the lighter plug. This will keep the protection (fuse amperage) to what Garmin has intended for the Zumo.

Mi amigo Gary....other question:

I just purchased the zumo so I am a newbie on this. The box came with the 2008 CD map. I received the notice o get a free upgrade for the 2009 map. I installed (downloaded) it to the zumo already. So my question is: I had before the StreetPilot 2610 and I had the map  (version 7) inte PC. When I wanted to create a route  had to go tothe PC, created the route and then downloaded to the Garmin. Do I have to the same with the zumo? I asked you this because I haven't installed the v.8 in my PC.

Thanks bro.

Zumo came w/the Mapsource program that will enable you to do the same thing.... create routes and download them to your Zumo. You can also put in a address and have the Zumo create a route also. I've found that I can manipulate the route more to where I want it to go by creating it in the Mapsource program then downloading it into the Zumo.

If you haven't already here are a few things you should do...

Go here for Product Registration

Download/install this program Web Updater (This will allow you to make sure your Zumo has the latest firmware)

Download/install the latest update for MapSource software version 6.13.7 as of February 27, 2008 . Don't try to use the update feature in the Mapsource program because it will not work. You will have to go directly to the previous link download it and then install. Note: You will have to do this w/all Mapsource updates.

If you are going to be interested in loading POI's (Points Of Interest) you'll need this also - POI Loader for Windows software version 2.5.2 as of March 28, 2008.

Want to learn more about Mapsource get this - Mapsource Tutorial

NOTE: When installing updates to the Zumo it's a good idea to remove your SD card (if one is installed) to prevent the update from inadvertently being installed on the card instead of the Zumo itself.

Gary, shouldn't Jorge get a free upgrade to v9 if he just purchased it? Also, would you advise him to wait if he does have the free upgrade available to get v10 when it is released next year?

There is only one free upgrade, and he said he got one...

Since that is the case I don't think he would be entitled to two free upgrades. :nixweiss:
