Mystery button?
« on: April 29, 2007, 12:17:34 PM »

There is a chrome button on the lower left side of the faring, just below and left of air temp on my 07 SE Ultra that puzzles me. It can be pressed and makes a noise like it does something, but I don't know what. The owners manual shows it in the picture of the instruments but doesn't call it out. It may be somewhere else in the manual, but I couldn't find it. Could someone shed some light on this mystery button? :confused5:

This deserves a special place.  The 07s were christened Jesters, the air temp gauge became the rain gauge, that dumb little plastic disc will forever be the SUBTOTBF.  From now on the lighter is the "mystery button."   :2vrolijk_21:

And as my wife points out it is a good place to plug in your cell phone charger, with a place for the cell phone in the fairing glove box.

That's what I was thinking also, but just wanted to make sure the '07's didn't have something mines didn't.

The mystery button does many marvelous things.  I often remove mine and let the mystery force it holds behind it enliven my GPS unit.  The mystery button is a truly great feature  :drink: .

Gary, that's the same power plug I use I see there plugged in to your mystery button receptacle.  Do yourself a favor and push the little buttons to remove the wires.  Then run a piece of heat shrink up the wire harness that is just large enough to go over that nipple on the end of the power plug that the harness goes through.  After you bring the wires back through and hook it all up shrink the the heat shrink tubing down over the nipple and wires to seal that end.  Otherwise rain will puddle in the end of it and blow the fuse that's built in to the plug.

Thanks for the idea. I had originally planned on getting some black silicone to put in that end, but that idea may be even better. :2vrolijk_21: Was it just me or was it a royal pain in the butt to get the wires in that plug. It would have been nice if you could turn/twist the push in thingy to have it lock so you can put both wires in, and then clamp down on them. I had to get a neighbor to help me get them secured. Go ahead and tell me there is an easy way, or that they do quarter turn and lock down and you can insert both. :-\

I don't remember any particular difficulty with it Gary.  Pull the black plastic nipple down out of the way, hold down the release buttons, stick in the wires, stick the nipple back up where it belongs (he'll say something about that line).

This reminded me that the guys at Traxxion Dynamics unplugged mine by pulling on the wires rather than the plug and yanked one out.  Had to cut the heat shrink off and plug it back together before rolling away.  Was an easy enough chore to do there with a pocket knife sitting on the seat.  But I've got to put the heat shrink back on.  Full of silicone it would have been a great hassle.
