Corbin Rumble seat on a 05 SEEG
« on: May 14, 2007, 02:02:56 AM »

Well it was supposed to fit.

With the stealth rack the seat will not fit. I really like the way it looks, but I don't think it will stay.

Stock seat for comparison

I had to remove stealth luggage rack. Many on this site don't care for the rack, I kind of like it.

tank interface, this is the road king model seat.
You also have to take off the driver backrest bracket.

The biggest issue now though is that the tour pak will not fit!

So THAT'S the Rumble Seat....

Duane, if it attaches in the rear with the same kind of bracket as does their dual tour seats you'll have a little adjustment for that fitment around the tank and dash.  That rear bracket is held on by a couple of screws and can be moved forward or backward a little to alter how close it is to the tank.

Buddy oh pal oh friend of mine.  You proabably remember that I'm not a big fan of that faux luggage rack.  So I'd not really care a lot about losing it (though it does offer a nice complement to the chrome rail on the new seat).  But man, losing the rider's backrest?  That'd be a tough loss to take  ??? .

Hey! Duane
I looked at those seats yesterday myself, liked the idea of the rumble seat but backed off because of no backrest, My back would really miss it. :2vrolijk_21:

That is what the instructions say. The seat locks down onto a tapered pin. The bracket that receives the pis is part of the flip mechanism. It is held on by 6 bolts and there doesn't seem to be any adjustment.

I'll snap some pics of it later.

Yeah I know. I actually do like it somewhat. But if that was all that would be lost I could live with it. I'm guessing that there is some type of replacement that would take its place. Right now it looks kind of silly with just the two tour pak brackets sticking out.

But wait ...... the tour pak won't fit either, so I could remove those brackets too!
The front of the tour pak hits the lower part of the seat where the lock is. Not even close.

Stealth rack, tour pak, drivers backrest, have to remove the rear pin every time I put the cushy seat on for Deb ..... quickly losing my appeal for the seat. I may still but some spacers in the frame to temporarily bolt every thing together and take it for ride though.

Oh did I mention, that the seat position is higher too. Normally in sneakers I am flatfooted with room to spare on the ground, even with the comfort stitch seat. With this one I can just about get flat on the ground.

Well Don, as you can now see, there is more to losing just the back rest on the 05's.
Not being able to use the tour pak is a bigger deal. I do like the ability to pop it on and off. I don't use it much, but you did notice in the pictures that I have two now. Was looking forward to using the seat full time (except for when my wife is on the back) an using the king pak for some trips.

BTW, both of the new seats look great. Get any real miles on them yet?

If you remove the the "Claw" luggage rack you remove structural support for the rear of your bike. I have it on very good authority that the rear, "loop" "claw" should not be removed. It is there for a reason, to tie the rear supports and fender together.

Based on the heft of the metal, I'm sure it does lend support to keep the frame tied together. I'm sure there is something that can replace it when removed though.
For my test ride I'll remove the "claws" and put the frame back on.
