Metzeler 140?
« on: December 17, 2004, 02:15:52 PM »

Gettin ready to order some Metzelers and wonder if a 140 rear will work. I've heard some have to trim belts guards and change spacers on regular RKs. Anyone tried a 140 on their SERK?

, just had a Metz 140 installed on my '02 RK (by dealer) No mention of spacers, etc.  And the belt pulley is still there. Apparently a simple install with no mods.
And, yes, it is a *much* nice r ride on wet roads  [smiley=1syellow1.gif]

I put one on mine and after a couple thousand miles noticed a slight rubbing on the belt guard so I cut off a little bit of it.  A lot of people do it with no modifications, but pulley spacers are available if needed.  Go for it, you probably won't have any problems at all  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Our 2003s have the heavy duty belt (wider).I would measure first not sure if it would fit. If it does let us know.

Just talked to my stealer yesterday and they said the same--a very tight fit and might need spacers and a trimmed belt guard. Also it may change the angle of the belt on the rear sprocket thus causing premature wear. I'll just stick with the 130; not a big deal. My wife just got a RK Custom with a nice fat 150 stock which looks great and makes my stock 130 look whimpy. But I'll run her any time!

I put one on mine a month ago and there is plenty of room and no rubbing at all.

It'll fit ok.  It won't change the angle on the belt from the transmission back to the rear pulley because the front pulley on the transmission is much wider than the belt.  Therefore the belt will just move over the slight amount that is needed to keep everything square.  You can check this out by looking up from under the bike.   Hopefully a dealer didn't say that it would change the angle, if he did, he doesn't know what he's talking about.  But it wouldn't surprise me to hear my local dealer say that!  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Could someone who's done this to their SERK please post a "before and after" rear view picture so the rest of us drones could see what this looks like?   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

It would help me, anyway, decide if I'd like to do this to mine or not. I just passed the 10K mileage mark, so I see a new rear tire in my future.  [smiley=1syellow1.gif]

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!!!  [smiley=beerchug.gif]

Great.  And here's what I got "after."  Wonder what accounted for the difference?
