Plus he can splain some of this chevy chit to me.
Don I was wrong about the 402.
It's a S/B 400 bored 30 over to 406.
And has 327 dbl hump heads off of a 327/365.
Does that make any sense to you?

That 406 as a bored small block 400 is a real common build Chip. Those are decent heads to start with too. Couple of questions. One about using the heads on a small block 400 block. The small block 400 with it's bore larger than other small block Chevy's didn't have as much meet between the cylinders. To address that they added steam holes between the cylinders. Heads that weren't originally for a small block 400 won't have those holes through the water jacket. Do you know if the builder used a head gasket as a template and drilled them through?
Only other thing I can think of is do you know if the block was originally a two bolt or a four bolt main? Working on small blocks everyone always tries to find the four bolt blocks. And on everything but a the small block 400s it actually is of consequence. On the 400s it's far less so. I even know a few small block builders who'd rather work on a two bolt main SB400 block than a four bolt.
Good luck with the motor however it's built though. Have a lot of fun with it.
